Thanks for the info, Hunter1660. Its starting to look like there MIGHT be cause for a recall. Keep us informed on your findings. If enough owners like us focus a strong effort to get this problem front and center we may be able to help not only ourselves but others who have the issue.

It was in bad shape overall but there was one bad notch in it that made the tick sound everytime it passed a certain spot. They replaced the belt now it purrrrrrs like a kitten. Noise is gone. Now I can hold my head up high!
Well, I was going to say this was awesome...

Its frustrating as hell because when I got up this morning to take the car in, I started it and the sound just wasnt there. Thank god I took it in yesterday to let them hear it when it was ticking away.....so I have GM certified witnesses.....it was doing it. They heard it, and we set the appointment for today (friday) to fix it. The belt was in sad shape and they fixed it....they checked the pulley systems, rocker arms....everything. They figured the belt had to be the cause of the tick they heard, and the tick I heard. When i picked the car up today, it was running nice and quiet on the front end.....but a few hours later. I hear the tick again but this time,...it was fading in and out......probably about 35% there.....FML!
The tick seems to be fading.....or on its way out, hopefully so but the belt didnt cure it. I wanted to put that out there for future diagnosis on similar issues.
At this point, Im not sure if I will take it back to the dealer. Its a real hassle to find a ride to work and back....and the way its going now, theres no promise the car will show symptoms while they have it.
The dealer should give you a rental. Did they offer one? Did you ask for one? You should.

One of the many reasons I made my SIM SS Automatic with the L99 disappear back in July after 11 months of driving it. It took that long to find another new car with the manual trans/engine match without stickers all over it. Tick be gone. Damn I wish Chevy would never have considered the AFM crap.

I practically demanded one. Hell, I am 44 years old. I damn sure aint walkin'!.....hehehehe....but they said they had no rentals available. OK!...I addressed that as calm as I could..then called a co-worker and got a ride.

Ok Finally I find a forum with the same problem Im having. I have a 2011 2LT, I have about 5K miles on it, but i noticed the day after I got the car it had a tick noise while it was running. My husband told me he couldnt hear it, but its there i still hear it to this day lol. Ive been debating on if I should bring it to the Chevy dealer and have them look at it! Im like the rest its a little embarrassing to have a brand new car and the motors ticking lol

A ticking sound is made by one part tapping on another. Tapping causes wear. To me there is zero debate about getting it fixed sooner rather than later. If it takes a month in the shop to get fixed then it's one less month of bits of metal tapping off and circulating through the engine. I'd get off the keyboard and drop off the car

the dealer gave me a 2008 z71 crewcab 4 door off the used carlot while they tear mine down.i know now why it was traded in...gas guzzler..but it is a nice ride....the camaro5 forums is what helped me get mine repaired...... cross my fingers....i read of all the horror stories about many dealers trying to blow it off as normal......the key is in the tsb were it says its random.....and random it is.....i found that after setting overnite it didnt tic as bad as when i drove it and let it sit for 2 or 3 hours..the tsb says wait 2 hours......it also says if the customer mentions the tic tic tic to check oil level,,oil pressure...but lifter replacement would probably be needed to fix the problem......the tsb says .mention....not complain, raise hell,or beg.it says mention.......if you document the problem.......via a recording.i used my sony mini dvd camcorder.they cant deny you......you'll have the proof....because i live 2 hours from my dealership i couldnt just drive and hang around hoping it might randomly do the tic tic tic.......when i carried mine in ..i gave them 2 copies of the dvd..and told them to send one to gm if thats what it would take to get the repair done...it'll probably friday before i get my ss back......i'll let you know how it goes...heres hoping

I had this exact same tick. Good to hear that they were able to replace some other parts that may needed changing but not good to hear after some back/forth, the root cause on why you went in is still there....

What this is, is a ‘lazy lifter’. GM used some faulty lifters in the 2010 L99's. There is a TSB issued which states that a customer who complains about this noise is to have dealer check, confirm and then repair (or replace the lifters) fully covered under GM warranty. Like I mentioned I took mine in, the tech searched for such a bulletin in their system found it and I left the car there for the night. The next day they called to let me know that they were able to hear it and going to go ahead and replace. I got the car back and tick was gone and 3 weeks later, has yet to come back.

Hope this helps and good luck.

I have an early release R6P L99 and it ticks sometimes at startup then quiets down. I had two LS1's that ticked and i learned to ignore it. my 2002 SS had 68,000 miles on it when I traded it in 2009 for my 2010 1SS.
