Thanks for sharing... absolutely great workmanship. I can only hope I can hear it some time. Congratulations on a beautiful install. I know you have a lot of time in the build - I hope you enjoyed the journey cuz the results are amazing!

Love your wire management and use of stock vents for the amp cooling. Great job.

Yeah, the $5000 budget is a joke for the ENTIRE build but there is actually $4900 of just EQUIPMENT in the car at normal RETAIL pricing. This does not include about $3000 in parts and materials that were used NOR the install labor itself. It would have to be close to a $30k install turn-key. I own my own store and did all the work by myself (no $$$), got help on the equipment from JBL, Tsunami, Kinetik, Dynamat, etc. Competing requires alot more detail and build-up work that normally is never seen for the normal install. All wiring has to be protected in some kind of loom (I used color-coded Techflex and heatshrink), secured every 8" or less, and be routed safely with the appropriate fusing. It is a real pain to go the "extra mile" for these things that are never seen but it makes for a solid, trouble-free install in the future. Plus another big thing to consider in any build is to make everything "serviceable" without taking 3 days to take something apart. Speakers have to be protected as well as the small things like using some kind of "tamperproof" security fastener in all equipment (amps & speakers). All of these things done right, with pics to prove make a nice "competition worthy" install. The other important thing is to make it sound good. That to me is the most important with the function and "flash" being second. These cars are hard to get nice staging and imaging in due to interior design (huge dash, center console, etc.) The seats retract/slide enough to already touch the rear seat so no advantage of lengthening or extending the OEM seat tracks.

Kick panels are always better than stock door locations due to farther pathlengths from the passengers. The science is to get as close as possible to equal pathlengths from both speakers to your head. The near side will always be closer but you can get down to about 10-12" difference in a Camaro by going with kick panel mounted drivers. Now, it is alot of work don't get me wrong but the results are well worth it. Next problem then becomes is "stage height" which normally is about the dash. I also installed another pair of tweeters in the a-pillars to raise the height back close to eye level.

Also, not shown yet, is that I added a Focal 5" subwoofer to each front door (in OEM locations). This adds low end punch to the already good 6 1/2's in the kick panel. Not necessary for every build but I had a set and wanted to use them. I will post up pics of both.

Another alternative that I have seen several of in these cars is to go "pillar mount" or extreme outside dash whereas you would use a small mid (3") and tweeter mounted very close to each other and firing to the center of the car. Then go with a nice 6 1/2" midbass in the door. Far easier to build and will sound pretty amazing also. The ONLY problem is that with this type of build, it is impossible to acheiving accurate imaging on BOTH SIDES of the car at the same time due to, again, pathlength difference. However, the pros are that is make the entire stage at eye level with very little waver in image BUT these builds can only be tuned for driver or passenger side at one time, BUT NOT BOTH.

I am really proud of this install and the sound quality of the car. There is still room for improvement but the car sounds NOTHING like what you would think, especially given that it has such a big dash, short headliner, big console, etc. It is pretty impressive. Thanks for all the nice comments. My intent was to show that it is possible to build a nice system in a Camaro and compete with it, if desired, with great results. Keeping the OEM head (that has been slightly modified) was the other big deal for me. There is NO attractive solution to replacing the factory head until Alpine releases there kit and even then, it still doesn't look factory.

It is possible to build a car like mine that sounds awesome and do it for alot less money. Most of the $$$ im this build would fall under the labor section just due to all the time building everything to fit and the amount of focus on detail, fit, and finish. Please comment and ask any questions you like about any part of this build. I will get to posting up some more pics now....... LOL
