I call BS on the premium gas. The SS has a lower compression ratio than the V6 which runs on regular.

What a scam. I know the Corvette guys run regular all the time in the same motor.

Remember to check before you drive away in the moment. I made that mistake with my RX8.... damn near empty when I drove it off the lot.

you also realize that the v6 is a DI engine and doesnt introduce the fuel into the mix till the very last second.

and that no one is saying that you CANT run regular, just that premium is recommended.

I think Dragoneye said that there is no Performance Gain for using Premium over Regular in the v6

If its dealer's lard ass brother, and the windows are rolled up tight, I hate to tell you what kind of gas will be in the car when I get it...

without tuning, there wont be much of a gain if any. the V6 is tuned to run on 87 and does a hell of a job with it. cant wait to see one tuned for 93

I can't seem to find where I read it, but if I recall correctly, GM documentation stated "use premium gasoline for increased performance with both V8 engines." Maybe someone remembers where that was and can chime in?

its in the forum somewhere. probably in one of the brochures/manuals for the car also. but you gotta realize that some people will still run 87 regardless

So, if you buy premium for V6.. Will it not do anything beneficial?

Dect - Putting premium in a car not designed or engineered for it is an absolute waste of money. Anybody who tells you differently is blowing smoke up your...tailpipe.
Most of todays engines will reduce spark (via the knock sensor) if the octane is too LOW but if it requires "regular" putting "premium" will not increase the horsepower or torque.

Yes it does list recommended in the brochures. I may have misread CamaroScottys post. Now that I read it again I think what he is saying is the correct answer is "recommended" I think you can see why it was sort of confusing.

No question what I'll be running and I don't care if the dealer fills it up or not. I'm taking it slow the first couple of tanks. At least that's the plan.

it might gradually advance the timing after running premium for a while, but it wont be an overnight change. but thats true with any computer controlled motor, it will advance spark automatically untill it sees knock and will pull timing and start over. now if you re-tune the motor for premium you will see some extra gains
but the only beneficial thing it will do is put money in the gas companies' pockets.

unless its tuned

It won't make any noticeable difference with the exception of ExxonMobil's stock price.
