Question: would putting tire chains on summer only tires damage them?

how quickly do winter tires wear out. I live just south of chicago and often during winter the roads are completely dry although it is usually quite cold. there were a lot of sub 20 days this last winter. However, we also get ocassional warm spells where it can be over 40 for a couple of days. Basically what im saying is, do they wear out fast when it is dry and/or warm out?

Think I could get all-season instead of summer tires as a dealer-installed option?

'Snow' tires are not just for snow-covered roads.
They're a different rubber that keeps its elasticity in a lower temperature range than the AS or summer tires, whether or not the road is dry. Here in Ottawa I put my winter tires at the start of December and take them off at the start of April. Even though we get quite a bit of snow throughout the season, the roads are dry most of the time (most of my driving is on the highway too, which is kept clear and dry). I haven't noticed my winter tires to be wearing out faster than my AS tires. There is a huge difference between my AS and my winter tires however. I don't know about Chicago weather, but if it's anything like here, the winter tires are well worth having the day you need to hit the brakes to avoid a crash. |

True winter tires, like Blizzaks (Bridgestone) should be removed once ambient temps stay above 40 degrees.
At that temp, the compound is becomming soft and will wear rapidly. An all season tire is a bunch of compromises,IE not hard enouph to allow good cornering adhesion in warm weather, not soft enouph for really good winter traction, not enouph siping to be a real good rain tire, not enouph tread blocking to be a good snow tire. It is a compromise. As others have stated, a good set of winter specific tires (and wheels) will make your ownership experience just that much better. Rob (P.S. I do not work for any tire suppliers, just an enthusiast like the rest of you) |

I saw this on another Thread so I guessing these are the tires we can expect. And judging by the Brembo brakes I'm guessing these pics are from that SS models. I just hope us 2LT guys get some love.
It says Ice and Snow on the tires on the Red car but I don't know what the hell it says on the Silver one. |
