Dear Bentley78,

Your recent warranty claim has been denied due to the apparent abuse of the clutch system on your brand new car.

-Thank you

Well this is from the Cobalt SS. But it took me a few runs to figure it out. The first temptation is to feather the clutch out, but that doesn't work. So then you reread the manual and you try getting off the clutch faster, but dumping the clutch makes it feel like you are lugging.

Then you get a perfect clutch release which is just slightly slower then dumping (you don't just drop your foot off the clutch- but you lift it with conviction) and then you are like...OOOOOH, now I get it...

That's hilarious, i doubt the animal rights people think so.

I hope they didn't build this car with a punk clutch.

Bet your real happy you told this bunch of experts what you did wrong! What's done is done. Guess you don't have to waste your breath anymore trying to explain. A mistake you made to help people prevent it in the future. The next time the experts ask you to post a picture or something related to your car. Screw them, remember they are experts.

Feathering a clutch = burning clutch.

A clutch is meant to be engaged or disengaged. Only limited slipping while engaging. Full throttle, engage clutch quickly = quick launch or quick tire smoke. After a few you start learning to adjust the throttle to get the launch instead of tire smoke. As far as break in, if the friction surfaces have gotten polished and have no more machine marks, then the pressure plate and flywheel are broke in. It's about how many times the clutch has been engaged and disengaged that determines break in, not mileage.

If I start a trip by going through the gears one time and drive 500 miles before i use the clutch again, is the clutch broke in? Or is it broke in by driving around town for 20 miles stopping and starting and going through gears 30 times? Having a car broke in is not all about the miles you put on it. Give the guy a break, wake up some of your brain cells people.

Yea, I'm ok with people criticizing. I really shouldn't have tried it out so early... I really just wanted to see the Launch Control though. I never knew the clutch with "stick" have way when it wasn't broken in though... call me crazy.

However, I'm pretty sure there is no lasting damage...I might have glazed it but looks like with some easy driving - that will go away - which obviously I'm am going very easy on her now...

Also thanks for the link 2KZ28_For_Now - I'll make sure to get the clutch fluid looked at immediately and replaced if necessary.

Elbaumer, thanks for everything, the pics, the sweet vid, and the caution, besides, you have to enjoy your car, so have fun. CLutches are always replacebale even if you did do damage. So no worries. Thanks again
