Car dealers can see you comin a mile away, kid!! I wouldn't touch any of their financing or deals with a ten foot pole!! They know you're wild-eyed for a different car...they are not gonna lose any money or give you a killer deal...my $02

It depends on how much u get for ur car now in my opinion look up the kelly blue book price for both cars if they offer
you exactly what kbb say or more for ur car thats a plus if they sell u the ss for the price of the car or less - really u wanna pay atleast a thousand less then thats a plus I would want a great interest rate obviously ur making good payments on ur car I would go for a great price on the extended warranty since its used Also u have to keep in mind that u r starting ur loan terms all over again all the money u payed on the last car is gone.... Yet if u feel like ur money was well spent ur good at the thought of starting all over with a slighten sed yet upgraded car then go for it!!!! For me honestly all those thing would have to come into play for me to accept it Goodluckkkkkk Quote:

I think what you're missing is that your current car is not worth what you might think. The 7k you mentioned is gone...the depreciation when you drove it off the lot plus their profit is probably more than the 7k...its not money in the bank...probably one of the worst things you can do is unload a relatively new car, for another new car...I know they are camaros and we love them...but they are a horrible "investment"...its a tough world and I really don't see you having much to bargain with...they make money by selling you what they want, and we all tend to pay a lot more for something "we really want"...and car salesman know it!! good luck again.

Unless you have money to burn, you should not be even considering trading in a car that is less than a year old (or less than several years, really.)
Back in 2001, I traded a 2000 Porsche 911 for a 2000 Corvette convertible after purchasing the Porsche new and owning it for 8 months and 8000 miles. I got a screaming deal on the Corvette because it had been on the lot for a long time. Even with the great deal on the Vette, I ended up $20,000 down from where I'd have been if I just bought the Vette at MSRP in the first place and avoided the Porsche. Buying a new car is *always* a losing proposition from a cost perspective. The only way to ease some of the cost pain is to make sure that you consider it a 3 to 5 year committment, even if something better comes along. That is, unless you have money to throw away (like I did in 2000, but not now.) Also, it seems like you are looking at some really high prices on a 2011 car. Last week, I bought a brand new silver 2SS/RS with Hurst shifter and polished aluminum wheels, and paid $31,000. Granted, I have a long history with my dealer (4 new sports cars, and a new economy car, prior to the Camaro) and he really wanted to move it. Deals like mine are out there if you are patient. You need the dealer to want to sell it more than you want to buy it. Just my two cents, -Wade |

Don't over extend yourself. Stay with what you have and pay it off. The longer you drive a car, the less it costs you in the long run. I hate to see people get themselves underwater financially. You end up paying for it for the rest of your life.
Save your money and get one when you can really afford it. When is that? Well, one way you'll know is that you won't have to ask a car forum if it's a good idea. ![]() Good luck with your decision. |

Oh, and one more thing I wanted to add for the original poster:
That 2012 2LT/RS car that you have is a *great* car. I was in to talk to my dealer about ordering that car exactly when I came across the 2SS on his lot. Enjoy the heck out of the one that you already have and drive the wheels off of it. Don't go looking for more debt at least until you pay that one off. -Wade |

Wait until Sept/Oct and see where you are on your current vehicle (what it's worth vs. what you owe) and then see what sort of deals there are 2012s that the dealers are trying to get rid of to make room for the 2013s.

Simply great advice. In fact, everyone who has responded has given me fantastic advice that I am truly grateful for. I'm going to listen to it and hold off on the trade. I got two really nice compliments about my car today which just solidifies what everyone is saying, that A) its not worth the financial risk B) the car itself is still beautiful and fantastic. Thank you everyone for your advice. |

Two weeks ago I traded in a 2011 2SS vert for a 2012 2SS vert. I find the '12 steering wheel a lot more comfortable to hold compared to the '11. You also get a fully powered passenger front seat on the '12. Even though it may not seem like a big deal, having a door lock/unlock switch on the passenger door is something that should have been on the car from day 1. The rear camera is also a worth while improvement. For me, the improvements between the two model years are significant enough that I would find it hard to go back to an '11. |
