Sleep easy- they can't keep the deposit if you don't get a vehicle. Just keep going higher and higher, until you get to the dealer principle if you have to (thats the owner of the dealership). Just call the salesman- if he doesn't give the answer you want, tell him to transfer you to the sales manager- if it's still the wrong answer, have him transfer you to the General Manager- if that doesn't work, ask him for the owners office number...that would do it. However, I bet it's just a case of a greedy Sales Manager...just go over his head, but do it by having him transfer you...sweet justice.....

kewl slacker, I have tried the sales manager. If the samesman doesnt help me out I will ask for the general manager and if that doesnt work I will ask for the owner. My salesman is related to the owner, think he may know the owners office number?

Follow up
Hey guys as promised I would follow up.
Just got off the phone with my dealer. Now today the sales manager for some reason regained his memory. Was appalogetic and assured me nothing has changed that I get the pre order msrp price on the car. My salesman was very cool and apalogetic. They told me I am the only one at the dealer that gets the msrp price and due to the volume of calls the mgr. didn't realise it was me. I say b.s. Yesterday he asked my name and based on my name he responded oh you are the first camaro guy who paid way back. Hmm. I told them I would wait it out and wait a while longer for my order but boy am I ever not trusting of them now. (And the kicker is my wife's fav. color is silver just the color of this other car I can get next week, I orderd VR) I will not get any add ons from them such as intake exhaust stripes etc. And I have read horror stories that the finance guys are the ones who make the most money for the dealers. So When I set down with that person, unless I go secure my own finance, I will be on high alert. Just like if there was a tornado warning and I was seeing lightning and hail.

Just ask them for your $1000 back and go get that silver one! If they won't refund your deposit, here's what you do:
Get all your friends and family and whoever will help you, make up some signs that say RIPOFF DEALER WATCH OUT etc (and anything else you can think of that'll get attention) and stand out front on saturday and sunday (probably their busiest days of the week). You will get your $$ back so fast it'll make your head spin. It worked for a co-worker of mine who did it at a Ford dealer. |

Write both your local district attorney and your state attorney general to open a complaint for bait and switch. In the State of Texas, oral contracts are binding and your dealer entered into one with you when you placed the deposit. Further, track down what agency licenses Auto Dealers in your state and file a comparable complaint. You can make their life pretty miserable with the regulators in today's climate.

If the original guy is gonna charge you 3000 over MSRP, and the other dealer is gonna charge you MSRP, even if you lose the $1000 deposit, you are still 'ahead' $2000.
Although if he didn't get your pricing in writing did he put 'non refundabledeposit' in writing? Cause otherwise tell him to eat a dick and give you your money. |

Don't put up with this horse shit. Pretty much no one on here is paying over MSRP. You know better than to pay over MSRP. The only reason dealerships are charging over MSRP for a car that they have on the lot is because there is only ONE of those LT's at each dealership, so supply is low, and demand is high. But you, you're the early bird who got the worm. You're the guy who knew that the new Camaro was going to be released, and you put money down before it was announced, and you were willing to wait a year to get the car that you want.
Get your car. Don't pay above MSRP. And yes, you can get your deposit back if you really want. The dealer can't just change the terms of your agreement and expect to keep your money... trust me. Last edited by FNKNSTN; 05-03-2009 at 05:23 AM. |

Thanks for all the great tips guys. I will post any further updates I may have. For now I will let it ride but, if too long goes by and I get a chance to get the one I want at another dealer for MSRP you guys have given me some good advice on some things I can do to get my money back. And yes I refuse to pay over MSRP, when it comes deal time if they try this shit again I will raise hell in the show room in fromt of potential customers and walk out then do some of the things sugested here to get my money back.
