I'm glad you didn't take that post negatively and what you say makes total sense.... So want to move to Gainesville to show cops here how it's done? LOL

I did see (about 2 weeks ago) a black dodge charger behind me one day and it was going fast! It swerved out of my lane and then went past me. Right behind it was a cop chasing. In the next 45 seconds about 12 to 15 cars were blaring sirens passing me chasing this car.

Possibly the coolest thing I've seen officers ever do! Huge respect

Nearly 3 years and 4 traffic stops and none of them have said anything about no plate on front of my car. Oregon and NJ are the only two states I know of that don't have SS gas.

I guess you mean cops that write on their own kind. There are also cops that write for laws, codes, statutes that don't exist.

Last month I got cited for Improper Acceleration. I got home and immediately started searching for info. Turns out that Texas no longer has an acceleration offense since 2003. I then searched city codes and the only thing refered to motorcycles and front wheel leaving the ground. I sent the citation in with a not guilty plea and then went to the city secretaries office to request open records search for acceleration offenses. They called me back last week and said it is not a city ordinace but their legal team Googled it and it is a state law.

WTF? They have to Gooogle the law? I then asked how I can get a copy of the law and she put me on hold while she Googled it herself. After a couple minutes she came back on the phone and said she would have to do some more checking. The next day I got a call from a city prosecutor and he asked if my inquiry was because I got a citation. I said yes it is. He ask if I was in my car or a motorcycle. I said I know why you ask but I was in my car and told him to my knowledge acceleration is no longer an offense. He said I was correct and the citation will likely be dismissed. Now I'm just waiting for the official notice.

I now have a dashcam DVR because I have to go through the same officer controled intersection every morning. My concern is they will now try to cite me for something that didn't quite happen the way they say. I will always have a witness now that also has eyes in the back of it's head and records g forces as well as gps and speed.

Edit: This ordeal made me wonder how many people get cited and just send in a guilty with payment for something that wasn't even a violation. As an inspector, I will always question the jurisdiction and validity of any infraction. I read codebooks daily and have to interpret those codes for compliance. A little research goes a long way.

I do not like the front plate requirement either but they have to be on all vehicles up here. Fortunately for the next few months (our DMV is really slow at processing new registrations) I can legally drive without one, until the plates come in then its going to have to go on...

....it honestly upsets me when I hear other LEO's talk about "professional courtesy". Our job does not give us exemptions from the law. People have a right to expect higher stanards in us. Granted, no front plate is not exactly high on my list of citable violations and it is rare I write a citation to ANYONE for equipment issues. However, when I do stop someone and the first thing they do is badge me or give the ol' "I'm a cop", they are almost certainly going to get a ticket because of the reason stated above and because they obviously are not going to change their driving habits with a warning. Should I get stopped for speeding in my new beast (as most of you know, it is hard to not catch yourself speeding) then I deserve a ticket, price of having a pony car...

Going 15 MPH over posted may not even be speeding if conditions are clear, dry, little to no traffic etc.

Tactics can dictate lights and sirens. Even calls that an officer can "have the lights on" doesn't mean they want to. If I was driving to the area of an active shooter, I certainly do not want him to know where I am when I am arriving on scene.

I guarantee the police officers in your area know the laws much better than you think they do. There is a difference between the letter and spirit of the law.

I've let off a whole lot of civilians for moving and equipment violations. Mostly because those violations were probable cause to stop them, but ya, when I stopped a fellow LEO for a minor violation I never wrote it.

I always wanted to know where the gun is in relation to the ID and his/her hands, so I prefer'd a fellow cop to ID immediately.

With all that being said, it doesn't matter who you are if your behavior is felonious or you are acting like an idiot. You can talk yourself into anything..
