The dealer cant deliver the vehicle, and then wont return my deposit. Would you recommend them?
No I sure wouldn't and I think you should let everyone on this site know who they are and let the negative publicity take its course. These arrogant, greedy dealers need to suffer consequences for their dirty deeds.

Too bad
I feel your pain. I've been seriously considering cancelling my order. The entire pre-ordering process (and the way GM has handled different issues), has left me thinking this may not be for me.

Wish you better luck on whatever you decide to replace it with.

Its too bad this whole pre-order, some slimy dealerhips, no communication thing has inflicted the most hard feelings and negativity on the people who dreamed for this car for years.

Good luck!

I'm sorry, I'm just not understanding why it's so horrible that GM has an MSRP, and that's what the dealership is asking. I don't see how that has been the factor in making them greedy/wrong. The not returning your calls and emails would be the problem, not that they will not sell lower than MSRP.

And if I've read things correctly, GM is more interested in thinning the herd of masses of dealerships in concentrated areas. If yours is the only one around in an hour's drive, then it should be relatively safe. And besides, the closures are expected for Oct 2010. That is over a year from now.

Again, sounds like the only problem should be that the guy isn't returning your calls. Have you spoken with anyone else at the dealership? Are you one of their two orders?

Its my understanding that anyone can transfer their order to another dealer in another city or state.... so can't the one's who are closing ask the customer where they want to transfer their order to?? Would make sense to do it like that.... imho....

The way I see it, it's your fault for choosing the dealer that you ordered your car from. I would suggest that anyone ordering a car should do some research on the dealer first.

That's sound advice... I chose mine because they were the number one volume retailer of Camaro's prior at the end of Gen 4, which meant they'd get one of the (if not the) largest allocations of Gen 5's... and because they have a history of not exceeding MSRP on the latest/greatest Chevy's.

Not true in this case, if the the dealer tanks, and he loses his deposit, it is NOT his fault. The dealer is at fault for not delivering the goods, whether
their contract w/ GM stays open or not. GM is at fault for negotiating w/ dealers that cannot deliver the goods(GM must make arrangements w/ other legitimate dealers to keep the cash flow). GM has their reputation at stake.

If GM wants to take direct orders, great(get rid of the 'middleman'). WE are the loyal paying customers. And as such, allow GM to survive.

At least treat us with a little respect.

I bailed on VIN 3958. It was built 4/17 and nobody seems to be able to agree on where it is or when it will be delivered. So I bought a GT500 last week and took delivery monday. So today GM customer service calls me today and says "we have good news for you...your car is now in inspection". I politely told him "well thank you, but I have news for you...I got tired of waiting for my car and bought a new Shelby GT500 and cancelled my order".
My dealer has been great, but these ineffective, late and bullcrap responses from GM as to the status of this car pushed me over the edge. I was not about to lose ANOTHER summer without a hot rod based on previous promises from GM. Add to that the possibity of additional delays due the probability of bankruptcy and I really had no choice but to grab a great deal on a something that was available in the marketplace now versus some type of "vaporware". Lets just hope that all of this somehow works out for GM and us enthusiasts/customers in the future. But at this point I was nothing more than a customer looking to buy a car, and GM could not supply it or any effective date of when it would be here. My dealer had no problem selling my cancelled order to another customer who was waiting in line for it.

This is ABSOLUTELY NOT true. I had issues with my first dealer where I ordered in early Nov. Requested a refund and was told no, the deposit was non-refundable, but none of my paperwork said anything like that. Ended up sticking the credit card company on them and they finally gave me my money back. I even called GM and ask that my order and deposit be transfered to another dealer. GM started an inquire and after a week and a half, GM said they could do nothing after talking to the dealer.

GM has NO power over the dealers or how they treat their customers.

Maybe your bank can get you money back, I would try that. But don't waste your time with GM.

I pre-ordered from another dealer in Jan. before I learned this was just a big marketing research program.
