We have dealers like that here. They lie, cheat steal and would sell their daughters to a cheap New Orleans whorehouse. They say anything to get you to come in, where they tag team you. You did the right thing to walk out. You might have found out later that it fell off the delivery truck before you got it.

I dont blame you. The big issue here is the dealer lied to you and attempted to decieve you. If it was 30 miles, it would be acceptable...it would be a leftover 12 that was probably test driven by other customers in the past. But 300 miles? Thats something you need to know beforehand and it is a huge waste of time on your end as well. Im sorry you had to go through that.

I say you were right not to buy. I would have tried to make them order me a 2013 at the same price, or find one from another dealer that meets what you want. Just because of the inconvenience.

I guess I'm weird. 3k off is a lot for just 300 miles. I'd have inspected the car thoroughly for ANY sign of abuse. If there was none I'd have had a hard time walking away form 3k off.

Remember, it's not always just the dealer but sometimes a few bad apples at a dealer. And if the car is still a good car then you don't lose anything. I do things out of pure principle too. I accept my losses due to it but we have to be careful not to cut off our noses to spite our face.

if you think you can make that saving up on another deal then great but dealers don't always give that much off a new car.

You did the right thing by walking away from this transaction. The differing stories you got seem a little "shady" and, ultimately, when you buy your "dream car" you have got to come away feeling good about the experience.

I used to run the floor for a local dealership , and the owner would do that quite often , take a brand new car for the weekend or lend it out to others for special events , problem was the cars would always come back ABUSED , and we would scramble to make the vehicle sale worthy again , I've seen some crazy shit, from scratches to interior stains to blown motors on one brand new Nissan G-TR , we were told to put a new motor in the vehicle and sale it as new like nothin ever happened . Good thing u walked away , you just never know where it was or went through ......

I've known what I wanted for a while now, a 2012 black 2SS/RS auto w/ sunroof. I had a GM offer of $1,500 off and have been looking for the past couple months. With the 2013s coming out, I couldn't order and it was hard to find exactly what I was looking for. There were a couple around me, but one had 600 miles and the other had over 1,000 which just seems ridiculous for a brand new car.

Well about a week and a half ago I find the perfect car. Located in Chicago at Castle Chevrolet, only down side is it's about a 5 hour drive. All of their Camaros are on sale and this one is about 3k off MSRP. To top it all off, it's showing in transit from GM. I immediately call and have it held. The guy takes my information, including my debit card info, and tells me that if someone shows interest they will charge $1,000 to the card. I say no problem.

We exchange multiple emails confirming the sale price. He says nobody will be able to drive it when it comes in, almost as good as ordering it myself since it has the exact specifications I want and won't have hardly any miles on it. I was supposed to pick it up last weekend but was unable to make it, again due to the drive, and said I would for sure be there today as my offer expires. He said no problem they could hold it until today.

First, I get slightly concerned when I see the car listed on their website and it shows 31 miles on it. I confirm that it's being held and ask him if he can verify how many miles are on the car. After ignoring the question in a couple of emails he finally verifies that there are 31 miles on it. I thought about asking why so many but decide it isn't really that big of a deal.

Fast forward to today. My wife and I drive 5 hours to the dealership. First of all, about 15 minutes before arriving, the salesman calls and asks how close we are. I tell him about 15 minutes away and he says he may be in a meeting but to just ask for him and he will step out. When I get there, I'm told he's at another one of their locations today and someone different is going to take care of me. Okay a little strange but again, not a big deal. Then it get's interesting.

I go to check out the car and immediately I notice it has almost 300 miles on it. So I ask about it and tell him I specifically asked about this and was told 31 miles. He's like oh uh well, hold on let me see. Says something about the owner possibly borrowing it. Walks away, comes back and says yeah um I guess he took it for a few days. Now I'm pissed, I'm already getting a bad vibe from these guys and am now being told that the owner had this car out. I tell him we're going to grab some lunch before deciding. He then goes and grabs a manager who gives me some line about them taking the Camaros and Corvettes to a big car show in some town up North. Then the other guy mentions the owner taking it out which turns into well the owner's son had it for a few days.

After discussing it with my wife and brother-in-law over lunch, I ended up walking away. I'm so frustrated because it was a great deal but feel like I was lied to and deceived. I also don't like the idea of some owner's son taking a brand new Camaro SS and joyriding it for a few days, especially when a deposit was already put down (or made available) for it.

So am I overreacting? Because right now I'm pissed. I drove 10 hours today, spent money getting there and on the turnpike tolls, and it was all for nothing. I'm pretty sure these miles were put on prior to me asking and that's why the original salesman kept blowing me off. I should mention, the new salesman offered to give me 10 cents per mile for a whopping $26! They acted like it wasn't really a big deal, just a couple hundred miles. He promised me nothing was wrong with the car. I told him it was the principle of the whole thing.

So should I have walked or just bought the car? Do I have a right to be angry?
I would have walked away and would have promised them thay I would bad mouth them at every chance I got.

You guys did that?

Wow. So how do we feel good about buying any new car with more than 20 miles on it?

So nissan dealers are getting away with that? Its illegal to sell a car with a new engine as brand new without notifying the customer

First I want to say YES, you were lied to and you did the right thing.

However, put yourself in the salesman's shoes. You're trying to sell a brand new car that has 31 miles on it, all of the sudden the owner of your dealership says "hey I'm taking this car out and letting my son drive it." You can't just tell him NO, lol. I would have rather lost the sale than lost my job.

I think a little honesty on his part would have saved you the trip, as well it might have saved the sale. But it doesn't matter, these guys will just sell it to someone else and probably for more money. Sad but true.

Thanks for all of the responses everyone. It's good to know I made the right decision. Several people mentioned contacting GM, anyone specific or should I just write an email to customer service?

The dealership was Castle Chevrolet in Villa Park, just outside of Chicago.

I actually did try to get them to take additional off as opposed to instantly just walking away. It would have had to be a big chunk off. As others have mentioned, I'm sure those 300 miles were hard miles and that's what worried me, those Pirellis aren't cheap. I knew it was time to go when he said well...we can give you 10 cents a mile...and kept going on about how they were the #1 Camaro dealer in the midwest blah blah blah. Oh okay well since you're the #1 Camaro dealer, I'll go ahead and buy the car, as if that's supposed to mean anything to me at this point.

Also, if it was so cheap due to the fact that it had the miles on it, that would have been one thing. But all of their Camaros were on sale like that and as I said, this one happened to be in transit when I found it so it should have had very little miles on it since I made deposit money available.

Their prices were good, there's no denying that, but who knows what they do to make that money up. From some of the calls and emails to going in there and my salesman not being there to the miles discrepancy, I had a bad feeling about it and now I know I made the right decision, especially after the responses I've gotten. Like Baba said, when buying your dream car you want to come away feeling good. It's a large amount of money and I'm glad I'm not on here saying I got my car but am a little shaky about what went down.

Sorry brother, since it was the owner of the dealership I don't think GM has any say in what goes on. They are HIS vehicles after all. But it doesn't hurt to at least send an email, maybe they can find you the car you want?

I think every dealer and every salesman and especially every finance guy is going to treat you like s**t. I mean it. I've never known anyone have a good experience at a car dealership, especially a Chevy dealer. I also drove six hours to get my Camaro, stayed over night in hotel, drove it home the next day. It was a miserable experience, but at the end of the day I got the exact car I wanted and I'll never see the jerks at Maxie Price Chevrolet again.

The only thing I'll say in your situation, the car is under warranty, I think it would have been fine. But you got to keep your dignity. I did not. Not at the dealership anyway. On the drive home however, my dignity came back

<....I was supposed to pick it up last weekend but couldn't make it....>

Could this have possibly contributed to the problem? Actually, considering the $3,000 off, I would still have taken the deal since it was the exact car that was wanted and even though things did not go exactly as planned? Seems like stuff always has to happen. Sorry man.
