I have to second Palmer's comment. Are you doing your fuel calculations on a Saturday night while out drinking with the guys. I think the only way you could come close to a 35mpg average would be if someone pushed you up to 55mph and you deployed a sail out of your sunroof once up to speed. Just sayin. I own one and I am not heavy footed. Well maybe a little. I'm averaging 21.5mpgs on my trip to work and back which is 70% highway 30% city.

My average fuel mileage is 24 mpg and I don't usually get on it. If i'm absolutely babying the car, I can get 26mpg, and that's almost exclusively highway commute (40 miles highway, 2-4 miles city). Honestly I got my v6 because I wanted a new first new car, and I wanted it to be something fun and at least somewhat more economical than my old RX-7 Turbo, that was giving SS camaro's challenges, and handled surgically, and horrible mpg (I would still have it if it didnt get hit).
Now that I'm possibly getting a raise at work... I'm already in talks with dealerships about possible trade-in for a 2013 1SS/RS with the NPP exhaust.

Bottom line that is driving this possible trade-up: if I'm to rival the performance I used to have, it's just much, much easier to start with an SS. But yes, the v6 will save you money on things like insurance.

I think the insurance cost only varies per your collision/comprehensive coverage. For instance, when I first got my Camaro I just had the legal minimum liability coverage - it was the exact same cost as my Honda Civic that I traded in. A "sports car" is a "sports car", at least with State Farm. I decided to put some collision and comprehensive on the Camaro for a time, while I was getting used to it. That upped my cost about $80 per 6 months, with a high deductible.

So what I'm saying is... the insurance difference between a V6 and a V8 is dependent on the collision/comprehensive costs. If you just have the minimum liability the cost should be the same. Of course, that would require the car to be "paid for" and not financed.

Yeah, I got about 28 on that trip. Sometimes I get about 30 but that is will no traffic and few hils (like East Arkansas and West Tennessee). That was about what I was getting before the turbos, so not much change. That's at about 70-75 MPH. It gets close to 32 at about 55-60 MPH. Others actually saw an increase with turbos. Jim505 (haven't seen him around in a while) was getting about 35 MPH with his STS setup, but he didn't say what type of driving he was doing.

you are correct, I was assuming "full coverage" (collision/comprehensive). I would never drive my Camaro without it. I've had a car hit by a guy without insurance before... and I only had liability on it. Was not a fun experience.

Is your car an auto or a stick? My 2012 LFX 6-speed with just a cold air intake put out 270rwhp. Granted I know it's not "+15 for tune, +20 for exhaust" but it doesn't seem like it'd take that much to get to 300rwhp if I'm already at 270rwhp and only have an intake...

I ain't saying, but I'm happy with spraying. 31 -32 MPH average and 13.07@107 mph when I want to kick it up a bit. Enjoy whatever you have and can afford. Speed costs how fast can you afford to go.
