I drive about 3 miles each way to work, many red lights and stop signs along the way and I only get 13mpg in the 3.9l G6, did get ~27 on the highway last trip to Niagara Falls though.

Plus, skip shift. Yes, intentionally skip shift. I go 1-3-6 while Im in town and I easily get 19 MPG in the city with my LS1. Youve just got to take it easy and youll get good mileage.

Also, with the amount of torque available you need to learn how to get going from an idle before you learn how to go while giving it some power. That will give you the best idea of how to apply the power while releasing the clutch without doing it to slowly and glazing it.

finally some one who knows how to shift lol

sorry about the mini rant but to many people keep spreading that skipping gears is bad and its actually better

I forgot to post this yesterday.

http://www.mpgtune.com/fillupHistory.php?carId=3817

Its a great little website to track your MPG and other car related expenses. You can look at my notes to see what I did and how it affected my MPG.

I never stalled it or anything, but I know I was concerned about it, for a while. I excellerated at a pretty good clip most of the time. Occassionaly fast, but most times just aggressive, not leisurely. Will my next tank be better?, I sure hope so, 13 is nowhere near the 18 - 24 its supposed to be getting. BTW I love this beast!
As a new engine breaks in, friction is reduced by initial contact of all surfaces. This is typical. However, if you want to get better mileage, accelerate slower, look ahead and don't rush to a red light, and keep it under 65 for a while and see how much you can go over the 24 mpg. You'll be surprised.

Wish I would have checked mine before the muffler removal. I took it on the Interstate today for a bit, averaged 27.2 MPG(DIC) at 75 MPH after about 15 miles.
Might fill it up and take it out for a longer drive tomorrow to make sure it's reading correctly.

Son just completed an 850 trip from southern Illinois to Colorado Springs, he averaged 21.5 MPG. The car had about 250 miles on it when he departed yesterday moring.

So considering most GM DIC fuel mileage readings are about .5 high his real world highway fuel mileage must be just at 21 MPG.

My LS3 is getting 19.8 on the trip comp and it adds up perfect at the pump, I still run around pretty conservativly since I have under 2000 miles on her, it is all on mountain roads at 4800 to 7400 feet. If it gets better with more miles it will just be more icing on the cake!!

16.8 average. 70% city driving. A few heavy footed days thrown in there showing off!! 1600 miles so far. I thought I was really taking it easy most of the time....I guess my foot is heavier than I thought.
Help.
I have been doing a lot of starting in 2nd and skipping to 4th in city driving. Could this be hurting my gas mileage??

(all freeway) and was right at 29.9 for about 100miles. in town its down into the teens.
