I dont want no stinkin solid rear axle to save a few bucks.
I would not buy a Mustang at half price, over a full price Camaro 1SS at $31,000 - because of it. Plus, I like Chevy styling; Always have, always will. ![]()

Also, what does that optional $1200(guess) track pack do for daily driving ride quality. Most hit it on the head. When you look at what you get it is a steel. I don't want to make it just a HP issue but can anyone list the next cheapest new sports car with 400+.

By looking at an LS, I would have thought it was a 27k car. So, if you think of it that way, maybe. But the company knows that most people won't buy an SS, so why make it if you won't profit? And it's a lot of car for that money. So I'll say no.

Camaro SS is remarkably cheap for what you get for your money.
Overall prices on cars in US are very low relative to the rest of the world. You will pay over $50,000 for a Mustang GT in the UK... ! The Vauxhall VXR8 (Basically a Pontiac G8) costs over $50K too http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vaux/vehic...d&brandCode=9M And they get to pay $9/gallon for gas too.....

Did you happen to see the flywheel HP rating on the GT Premium? It is only 317hp. Then if you add the features you want to your car to get it to something comperable to the camaro it ends up being about 37000...... uh, for a 317 flywheel hp car.
Also there is the GT500 (cobra), It has more HP than the GT and a super charger. But the pricetag on that is in the mid to high 40000 - 50000 range. No thank you. I think Gm priced the camaro pretty well considering all the other stuff out there right now. Not only that but a decently outfitted SRT-8 Challenger is in the mid to high 40000 range.

Just went to Ford's website and priced out a GT Premium with as much as I could to roughly compare.
Mustang GT Premium - 33,530 You DON"T GET 6 speed manual or 6 speed auto - Mustang only 5 speeds IRS - Mustang only offers live rear axle, although a good one 20" Wheels - Mustang only offers 19s Brembo Brakes - Not sure what Mustang offers there but I think it's in-house Oh and 400/426 HP - Mustang only offers 315 unless you pony (excuse pun) for the GT500 I think the Camaro is well worth $1,000 (rough calc.) premium over the Mustang.

All things considered equal however; The Mustang GT Premium is not equal to the Camaro SS. The Camaro sits right between the GT Premium and a GT500. It has more power and better handling than the GT Premium. It has 'slightly' less power, yet still better handling than the GT500... It is only MSRP 3k over the GT Premium, which is a steal, and.. 20k less than a GT500, which is an incredible steal. Again.... greedy dealers though... They are the ones that are going to force the choice on the price conscious market. "Do I buy this little pony for my daughter at 33K? or do I get her the sweet ride for 38k (3k over MSRP...) If dealers weren't so greedy still, then the base MSRP is a good deal compared tot he underpowered pony GT premium. |

Yes its to expensive!
There should have been a Less expensive v8 option. Something with about 350HP that would end up being about $31k when done. Maybe without Brembo's, an LS2, or something to make it less expensive... The 4th gen LS1's started at about $24k. Give me that motor/chassis/set-up on a 2010 Camaro body ![]()

The 4th gen base cars were CRAPPY. Horrible ride, down right bad ergonomics, pitiful design and hardly any standard equipment. Look how at how much a fully loaded SS was in 2002. Talk about being too expensive then. |
