In some states they will actually arrest the owner for writing a bad check even if its $5.

Take your returned check to police station and file a theft complaint.Just as if they stole your credit card.

Good suggestion: Find out who the owner of the dealership is. You can do this through the Better Business Bureau or even sometimes Google. This is important. I guarantee you this guy isnt broke! You dont get to own a dealership by being bad a business, he closed his dealer before it became too unprofitable.

Good suggestion: Lawsuit. The fact they wrote you a bad check is AGAINST THE LAW. No matter what state you're in. Here's the Bad Check Laws in New Jersey... link http://www.consumerbadcreditguide.co...newjersey.html

Below are the civil and criminal penalties for writing a bad check in New Jersey.

Civil Penalties: Face amount of the check, attorney fees, court costs, costs of mailing a demand for payment, and damages in an amount equal to $100.00 or triple the amount of the check, whichever is greater, but not to exceed $500.00.

Criminal Penalties: Up to $1,000 fine or up to one year in jail or both.

For more information on bad check laws and for criminal and civil penalties in other states for writing bad checks, please read Bad Check Laws

Long story short. Find out the name of the owner, find him, get an attorney and serve him with papers. Go to the police and file a complaint as well, with his name, a copy of the check and a statement from your bank stating that it bounced. You have alot of legal rights in this case, dont let up.
Thanks for all the suggestions I found the owners name and I am waiting for the bank to mail me the actual bounced check. I will bring it to my local police precinct as see what happens. I since have ordered from a different dealer that is not going out of bussiness and he told me my order is in the 3000's already, but I am not excited like I should be because of my situation.

If they filed for bankruptcy, then unfortunately they are protected. My wife worked for a company that went bankrupt, and her last payroll check was never recieved. The employees tried to sue for the last week of pay, but the bankruptcy judge ruled in favor of the bankrupt company. Sucks, but what can ya do?

Angry HELP! I lost my $500 dollar deposit and I do not know what to do.

I ordered my Victory Red 1SS from Huntington Chevrolet and they CLOSED! They closed 2 weeks ago and no-one informed me about it until my fathers friend told my father that there are no cars on the lot. I put down a $500 deposit in May and I was informed that the dealer ordered it from GM. SO please guys what should I do?

Mods why did you move my thread? My problem is different from this guys. His dealer gave him a faulty check my dealer stole my $500. So move this into its own thread, do not add it to this guys thread.

All your pain and suffering that was caused because of this will get you compensated for sure. You could have ordered another car by now or purchased a new vehicle, $1,000 is alot of money these days, NO JOKE. It's your money you shouldn't have to struggle to get it back. To make things short you are going to and should get way more than your thousand dollars for this unreasonable bullsh*t... GOOD LUCK, and what state do you live in?

P.S. contact local news station, they may want to make a story out of this and help you get your word out not only to the closed dealership owner, but GM headqaurters, they need a little shaking to wake them up so everyone can get their precious Camaros already
Holy crap, you're 1 of THOSE people? Take em for all it's worth? You're like the McDonald's lady that got burned because there was no label on the cup that said "Caution: Hot". People like you are the reason the Double Cheeseburger isn't on the dollar menu anymore.

I'd say take em for a few-hundred extra, since you're having to track them down, waste gas, and the wear & tear on the vehicle.

Just go to the Police Station & let them know what happened. If you let them know you're going to be civil about it, I'm sure they'll contact the previous owner of that place & be able to contact them.
