In my case it's always there just much more noticeable/stronger right after an oil change.
I know this is not the answer your looking for but it's all I have and seems to be more noticeable during the warmer months.

Have you had yours fixed yet or just living with it?

I do agree the smell always seems to be there, more at startup but when I put it on AC it goes away.

Anyone else having this issue? I was at the dealer on Saturday. The SM smelled it but had no idea what it was. I plan to leave the car with them one day this week.

I had a 1999 Mustang GT with likely the same problem. The rear main seal can apparently spew fumes and not drip oil making it difficult and frustrating to diagnose since adding dye to the oil will show nothing. It's going to take persistence on your part to get the service department to take the time to diagnose the problem.

Did most of the people who experienced this after an oil change smell oil coming through the vents prior to the oil change? I don't smell oil in my car at all at this point and am about to change oil for the first time..

I did my 1st oil change at 500 miles, to be honest I do not remember smelling it then.

I started a new thread on this in the main section to get some more traction.

I have had the oil smell since i picked up the car in march of 2013. It happened occasionally after coming to a stop when warmed up. You could only smell it in the cabin and it was definitely OIL. Nothing else has that distinctive smell.
Before going to the dealer, i personally crawled around uderneath and could not find any leaks. The dealer said it was probabbly a coating on engine surfaces that would burn off quickly. i have had many new cars and i have never heard that or experienced this before but i figured i would give him the benefit of a doubt. Sure enough, in a few weeks it was gone. Keep in mind that i drive 120mi per day.
At first oil change, the smell came back for a few weeks and continues to come back everytime i change the oil and its not because i spill any oil during the change. It has to do with the oil level in the crankcase. I use mobil 1 and wait until the oil life monitor tells me to change the oil. usually by this time i'm about 1 qt low, which with an 8 qt cap on the 6.2 is not an issue. just topping off the level and not changing the oil brings the smell back.
Planning on making an apt. with the dealer now that i have all my ducks lined up in a row and start the painfull process of dealing with GM

Hello,

Very sorry to hear about the vehicle concerns as I certainly understand the displeasure you're feeling. I am able to research any recalls potentially associated with your concern if you send me your full name and VIN. I also want to extend an offer of assistance to once you have scheduled an official diagnosis. I'd be more than happy to keep an eye on the process for you if needed.

Regards,

William R.
