I always use engine braking, together with a combination of heel and toeing and double clutching to downshift... Match the revs properly and you won't have much more wear than normal on the engine and your brakes last a bit longer too

So you would rather replace a clutch over some brake pads?? It makes no sense to me but to each his own. Pads are way cheaper and easier to replace. Even if you think there is no wear on the disk, there is. Whenever the clutch pedal moves there is wear.

LS3 will spin to 7800.
No one has the balls to do it though.

I spin my engine at about 7-7.1k

There's a famous line by engine builders that goes:

It's cheaper to buy brake pads than it is to replace an engine. I downshift only when I want to show off and make a little grunt if some car is too close to me.

Nope, I hate paddle shift........I know it really shouldn't happen and like I said it doesn't happen often...maybe ten times in 2 years mostly when its hot outside. He said it was possible that it could happen from time to time. I suspect its something to do with my MAF sensor but its a "strong" coded one and according to the computer it seems to be operating as it should.

I took it in and had them check it out on the computer, but he said everything was fine with the car......I grew up with the guy who worked on it, known him over 30 yrs he's the only one I let work on it at the dealership.

Is your car tuned? If so, raise your rev limiter and leave your shift points the same. Sounds like the car is trying to shift at a higher point than the rev limiter will allow because some dunce tuned it wrong.

It's not about balls. It's about bills. The rest of us have them and can't afford a new valvetrain right now. You apparently have plenty of money floating around to buy new engines and valvetrain components.

unfortunately, no........(thats next yr.....and when I do it will be done by argueably the best shop around here)

maybe my CAI and muffler delete have something to do with it?.......everyone says it shouldn't, but obviously it happens.

the reason I point to the MAF, is because I had to use cleaner on it once because of an over oiled air filter that came with my cai (not my fault)
my thinking is..maybe its slightly "fouled" and in the heat it hiccups from time to time???

That doesn't seem likely. I'd take it to a tuner ASAP and see what they said.

There was a guy with an LS3 spinning it to 7800 all the time. He had tons of track passes until he decided to put in a new block.

When he took the block out he claimed it looked perfect and he actually sold it.

The LS3 is quite sturdy. The engine will spin 7k+, just because 90% of people will only take it to 5k doesn't mean it's not safely capable of doing more.

I don't have that much power but hopefully close next spring, by the way where did you buy your rev limiter from?
