Hopefully that means they're taking the time to make sure it's all done right & doesn't mean they don't have a clue what they're doing.

I always worry about this massive of a change - making sure all the connections/hoses are put back correctly.

I've actually replaced two engines in two 2011s. The first, I replaced due to the fact that the engine was missing a crankshaft bearing from the factory. Now you can imagine what damage was done there. The second, I replaced timing chains first, then GM changed their mind and just told me to replace the engine. And yea, the engine does come down from the bottom.

lot of v6 failures. Not all of them are reported here
I wonder if thats one of the reasons why gm switched to the LFX

My buddy's daughter killed a motor in a 2011 2LT. The dealer determined that the cause was no oil in the motor. It had 800 miles on it at the time of the failure. The dealer insisted it had oil when it left. My buddy confirmed this to be true because he checked it when they got the car home on the day of purchase. Apparently the motor had a flaw during production and the thing ate 6 quarts of oil in less than 1,000 miles.

I could use a little help now !!! After 50 hrs of work, they are still trying to get this engine installed. I'm very nervous about this being a 2012 Camaro engine. The engine pan had to be changed and the injectors.

Could someone tell me what to look for in engine code # to verify it's not just some generic 3.6 engine? First if it's 2012 Camaro engine it should be a LFX.

They will not be putting an LFX in, too much work, cost and things to change.

To know what they are putting in just look at the intake manifold. Plastic means LFX, metal is LLT. 100% sure you'll see metal

They will replace it with a factory fresh LLT out of a crate and attach stuff from the old engine that is reusable.

Okay, let's say it is a LLT. How do I know it's a Camaro version LLT versus something else?

What makes you think it wouldn't be an LLT? As far as I know the only other RWD car to use the LLT is the CTS.

50 hrs?

They have no clue what they are doing. This car is an incredibly easy car to do engine work on including replacing the engine.

I've done replacements from the top and bottom, flip a coin and depends on if you prefer a hoist or cherry picker. I prefer cherry picker style from the top. Then you don't have to mess with all the steering/suspension/frame stuff.

Pretty common to have to swap the pan. Often the service engine might be just one part number for several vehicles, they you swap over the pan.

The LSA is exactly the same. If you order an LSA, it's actually the CTS-V LSA, and the instructions will say.... if putting in a Camaro, swap over the oil pan, oil pickup....
