The 500GT, like all Mustangs, is a really nice car but it is a Dinosaur when it comes to technology. Who is going to want a 2013 500GT after the next generation comes out, it is going to kill its value.
Its going to be a while before anything trumps the ZL1 when it comes to technology. If 580 hp isn't enough buy an air box and pulley. |

Hey, new lurker here. I just sold a supercharged Mustang GT, and I am considering a ZL1.
Are there any tune/CAI packages out there that would bring the ZL1's HP up to something closer to the GT500? I'm very familiar with Mustang aftermarket parts availability, but I'm just now starting to get educated on the Camaro . . . |

Congratulations! I just picked mine up this past Saturday and I cannot stop driving the thing. I feel the seating position is better than what you'll find in a GT 500. As mentioned here we probably don't need so much power for a daily driver; however, this car is every bit the daily driver the SS is if not more so with the MRC.
If you get an SS fully optioned out you can pay closed to 45k. 10 grand difference from the ZL1, so I never considered the SS once the ZL1 was shown to the public. Too much car for the money to pass up. There won't be one single mod added to mine as I concede the mustang is faster. I just wanted to own something special and rare and not have to sleep in it. Both the GT 500 or ZL1 fit the bill. The car is so special that I gave up riding my motorcycle for it. Told the wife I'd never ride it again if I could have this car. She said ok, so now it just sits in the garage awaiting a buyer this spring. I don't regret it for one second! |

Camarotobe check my sig. It puts engine hp at about 670 and rwhp about 580. All without a tune. Now as to why I got a ZL1 insted of a GT500 I have 2 reason, 1st I'm a Chevy person don't like Fords. 2nd I got mine to do track days at Watkins Glen and saw how much the magazines liked the ZL1 over the GT500 on road courses.

Talking about the mechanical part of the car. Couldn't agree with you more about the screen, my pick ups and Tahoe's have had them for years, let alone the fact we didn't even get climate control or menory. I was just saying if I was going to get a new GT500 I would wait, I think the next gen is going to be an unbelievable car compared to this gen. |

New ZL1 owner and why I chose ZL1 over GT500
Quote:
Quite frankly the Camaro needs the rear backup camera and sensors because of its blind spots (adjusting the mirrors only does so much) It's a 10 year old chassis the S197 they couldn't add IRS if they wanted to add it to the current model. As per PTM as an example, I won't argue it's more advanced than the 8 or so modes that are on the GT500, I'd prefer not to have a traction control system that controls the vehicles throttle in turns. The Camaro may have the chassis tech, but apart from the HUD, it's not very technologically impressive inside. I love the HUD in my Camaro but the interior technology definitely goes to the Mustang, exterior Camaro. ![]() Also we don't know what the new gen cars will look like, it's easy to say we won't like the new Mustang or even Camaro for that matter, plus the 5.8 is being cutout after this model... |

PTM 5 (race) paddle shifting, 94 degrees outside , once you learn how to manage the throttle and get a good feel of the brakes and handle of the car its truly awesome. The car gives you a great feel all around, For a 4000lb car it sure dont act like one on track, Those big ass tires really keep you planted to the ground. 4 track days and never any problems, with track insurance and gm warranty really makes for a great day to see what the zl1 was made for. |
