Here is a my take form a lifetime of professional drag racing and over 38 years building performance & race engines.

On the drag builds, we coat headers inside and out to hold heat in for better scavanging. Proven more power. This is with an open eader w/just collector.

With N/A cars on the street, we see increased starter failure due to the heat as the header wraps righ around it and is constantly baking it, and reduction of heat under the hood reduces heat soak and the cooler the charge, the more room for oxygen molecues, the more more produced.

No on a turbo build, you want to retain heat IN the header/ehasut/hot side for moore efficiency in driving the turbines. And anyone with turbos knows already how dang much heat is generated.

So I cant see (in complete odds with what many header companies suggest) any reason to not ceramic coat headers/hotside exhaust on any application as far as benefits from theat shielding and heat retention in the exhaust system.

If only for looks alone, mine are getting coated.

I think it all comes down to the fact that while it (coating) may not be necessary for most applications it doesn't hurt anything and it does have benefits. Just like choosing between one manufacturer or another it all comes down to how much you want to spend and much the difference is worth to you.

^ correct. I'd rather wait to save a bit more and go with coated since they push less heat to surrounding parts. You can save money w/o coating and then pay to replace some other damaged parts which is not the right way to invest.

I just ordered my long tube headers + x-pipe, and will get them coated by a local exhaust coating company here. What do you guys think about wrapping them as well? I will be driving my car at the road-course track all the time, and I'd like as little heat as possible around the engine, and also by the transmission. The header + x-pipe kit comes with high-flow cats, so hopefully they won't overheat as much as OEM cats after I wrap them.

Some say wrapping causes cracking, but the headers are 304 SS, not to mention the coating that should increase its strength; what do you guys think?
