I sold my ls1 4th gen to get my 5th gen but only way i could handle parting with it was to sell it to my brother so when i do feel the urge to drive it its just an hour away ....... I also still have my first car 95 lt1 4th gen......i could never sell that one

I have the same thoughts about my 02 Firehawk. I often wonder if I would truly miss it if I sell it. It has 5000 miles and really doesn't get driven much but when I do drive it it reminds me why it still has a spot in the garage.

Sounds like an awesome 4th gen. If I would have been able to I think I would have ordered a Firehawk instead of buying a Camaro but by the time I graduated College and could start looking for my college graduation present to myself you could not place any more orders for a 4th gen. Last model year and orders were closed.

Firehawks were really sweet rides!! And only 5000 miles

I had 2 4th gens at one time also, but not when I had my 5th gen. Both of my 4th gens had about 100,000 miles on them when I sold them............do I regret it, yes the '98 Camaro with ground effects, I miss it! It was that rare gold color....shoulda kept it. I keep thinking I should get a 4th gen SS that's got a supercharger on it to take to the track and keep my baby safe, but I dunno. It's a dilemma!

I had three fourth gens. While at the time I liked each one, I do not miss them.

These things really bothered me about 4th gens:

* The motor was half way under the windshield
* On two of them the distributor was right under the water pump
* Many little things, headlight motors, power window motors, etc were constantly breaking
* The interior was plain on the Firebird and the LS1 Camaro, and truly ugly on the LT1 Camaro
* The car was not all that comfortable on long drives
* Rattles and creaks
* Overall quality seemed very low, for at the time a somewhat high priced car
* The styling was a bit awkward

But at the time it was much better than the Mustang and it was the only game in town.

My best friend has had several 4th gens. I drove a few automatic ones. Work on a couple.

I don't see how anyone could miss those cars. Probably among the poorest quality sports cars that were ever produced. Aside from the LS1 in the later years they had nothing going for them. I like the looks of them, but that's about my extent of love for them. It's no wonder sales were suffering, it was recycled junk.

But, that's just IMO.

I miss my 94 z28 at times. But I also miss my beat to hell 92 firebird formula. It's what they both remind me of tho. The good days in high school.

When I bought my 5th gen I was looking for low mileage 4th gen's with a LS1. The price is just too high for them in my opinion.

I plan on one day getting into one again. I miss t-tops!

Ok. Why do you miss it? Is it an emotional tie or is there something the 4th gen did for you that your 5th gen does not do?

Thanks.

I've noticed a faily common opinion that the 4th gen quality is much lower than the 5th gen and that a lot of people don't miss the 4th gens because of that. But my thought is before any of us knew that the 69 Camaro would be so sought after I'm sure back in the day if you asked people about a 10 year old Camaro they would have probably said a lot of the same things. Bland interior. Old styling. Older Technology. Etc...

Many of the same opinions that would have been uttered about 1st gens back then are likely very similar to the opinions that many people think now about 4th gens. Yet 1st gens have turned into a huge collector car and now I've never met a car guy that doesn't like a 1st gen Camaro or even a 1st gen Mustang for that matter.

Also talking with a friend last weekend the 63 Corvette Split window is also a highly sought after model. Why? It's rare. But the reason it's so rare is because back in the day everyone hated the split window when it first came out because of the poor visibility out of the car with it. So GM responded by getting rid of the split window. Fast forward 30-50 years and suddenly a model year that customers hated because of the rear window back in the day is now coveted by collectors now?

I'm not saying that I'm debating holding onto my 4th gen because I think it will be a collector car. That's not really in my plans or thoughts. But the reasons people don't like 4th gens now could become the very reasons that they are desired later. Plain interior = simpler to work on. Strong LS1 engine without complicated VVT and AFM = cheaper to modify/tune and plenty of proven aftermarket choices. I'm just really trying to weigh out the pro's and con's of both view points.
