the 1LE is definitely worth a look...no, you can't get it with an auto tranny, but it's easily one of the best-shifting cars i've ever driven. the wheels alone got me looking into the package, and then i discovered all the other upgrades. best bang for the buck, period.
the dual-mode exhaust is a must-have option from the factory unless you already love a particular aftermarket exhaust. the mylink NAV option is also pretty well-done, although i haven't used it more than a couple times. but it is pretty cool that directions pop up in the hud. also worth noting, when i got my quote from Geico there was no diff between a 2SS and 2SS/1LE... obviously i don't race my car since there's no tracks/strips in hawaii but i've read a LOT of people saying that the 1LE is what the SS should've been all along (this is also my first camaro, btw).so, there's my two cents...and the aftermarket is huge on these cars. modding is my new favorite hobby

OP: you're 18... learn how to drive a manual, you don't know what you're missing once you get the hang of it. SO much more fun and involving than driving a manual.
As for your friends laughing for getting a Camaro.. Maybe time to change your friends too then. And lastly, if you can afford it, and really want a 1LE over an SS, don't let anyone put you off. in the and, as has been said, it's YOUR car and you have to drive it. |

He probably can't wait for the new one to drive down prices on the current one. The guy totaled his car, and since he's just 18 I assume he doesn't have another car that he can use until then.
That being said, you really can't go wrong with either the Mustang or the Camaro, despite what the fanboys will tell you. Just go with what you like best and can afford, as others have mentioned. |

As the owner of 08 mustang and a 11 camaro, I have to say the Camaro kills the mustang in every way. I know things have changed from 08 to now, but my 08 seemed so poorly built, everything about it screamed cheap to me, and of course how underpowered it was compared to my Camaro (I know this has been fixed now).
Also, I thought I had totaled my Mustang, too. It looked just like yours, and they did not total it out. They repaired it. At the time of the wreck, it was worth around $18k, they spent over $12k to rebuild it. Never made any sense to me. Then, a few months after I got it back, a log truck drove over the front corner (made the turn at an intersection too short, kept going) of it and ripped the side off almost. Again, insurance paid to have it fixed. There were more repair cost sunk into that car than it was ever worth. So, just because you think they'll total it, that's not always the case. But I really hope you get a Camaro! |

One thing to be forewarned about is that the aftermarket for 5th gen Camaros is severely priced gouged. You'd think you were owning a Corvette or a Ferrari with how bad the prices are blown out.
Something that costs about $17 for a Chevy Cruze is $150 for a Camaro - case in point: LED Cruze Emblem - $16.99: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-Cr...item3a7ae1bf77 LED Camaro Emblem - $149.95: http://www.northamericantuning.com/C...p/nat-1242.htm ![]() It truly is downright disgusting what people charge for aftermarket mods for the Camaro. But because it's the hot car right now, people bend over and take it. I, personally, can't stand it... While I love how much of a difference the Cold Air Inductions CAI made to my car and it truly is a quality product, I would never pay the $400+ for an intake again... I bought my SLP Intake for my 1994 Camaro for $250 brand new and that was considered expensive to the 4th gen crowd. The disgusting prices for aftermarket mods has severely limited my ability to mod my 5th gen.

One thing you might consider is that as far as I remember, there are two different V8's for the Camaro, one that comes with the automatic (L99) and one that comes with the manual (LS3).
The LS3 has just a touch more horsepower but has a manual trans. The L99 on the other hand incorpoates what they refer to as AFM or Active Fuel Management where the engine de-activates 4 of the cylinders under low-load conditions. The problem is that the transistion between the modes can be very annoying for some people. My 2011 was a Manual with the LS3, so I have no direct experiance of the L99/AFM, but perhaps others will chime in. Also, the tires that come on the SS are SUMMER tires that lose their traction when the temps fall below 50 degree or so. Just a heads-up. |

My girl friend has 13 gt I have 10 ss. To mr the camaro handles better and pulls harder on the bottom to 5k rpms. The gt feels like it makes more the higher u rev it. Feels like the back end wants to come around more than the ss

Camaro is a good car. If you don't need leather, you can save yourself a decent amount of money by switching to a 1SS instead of the 2SS. The "1" packages (1SS, 1LT) have cloth interior. The "2" packages (2SS, 2LT) have leather. SS are all V8 models. LS and LT models have V6. The RS package adds only a few options to the SS. Halo head lights, fog lamps are replaced with DTRs, and roof molding is body colored. 1LE package changes suspension, wheels and tires, manual tranny with different gears and 3.91 rear end gears. If you want to go auto instead of learning to drive manual, you can always change out the parts to make the auto preform as well as a 1LE, but you'll spend twice as much to get it there then what the 1LE package costs. You can also look at used, but you won't find a used 1LE. And the 2010's don't have the HUD, not sure about 2011.
I have a 2010 1SS manual without the RS package. I didn't need any of the options that came in the 2SS or the RS. The 1LE wasn't offerred when I got it. I didn't need any of those options, because I have or will be replacing everything that I would have gotten anyway. I like to customize my cars lightly to make them different. I've done aftermarket wheels, and stripes already and I plan to do the interior some day soon. Nothing extreme on it. Just leather and suede in colors that match the exterior, which was never available from GM. |

Welcome to the DARKSIDE! I have owned approx. 12-13 Mustangs from basic GT's to Cobras & Saleens. I bought My SS in Sept. of 09 on a whime and can tell you, I've never looked back. When I bought the car I honestly gave it a year! Now I can't think of anything else in its price range I would want to drive other than maybe getting into a Raptor or something....

I suppose the nice thing to say would be 'get whatever car makes you happy' however Im gonna be honest here and say get the Camaro it's the best car ever!!!!! There is nothing you cant buy after market for the 5th gen. The options out there are absolutely amazing. My favorite aftermarket company is Apex Motorsports.
And don't worry about your friends. They just have Camaro Envy :P
