And yes, you could certainly fit 18's on your SS. You'd need to get rid of the "roller-skates" on the front brakes, and clamp back your rear emergency brake cables (pretty easy), and they would fit just fine. Plenty of people here running 18's on their SS. But yes, obviously, you need correctly fitted 18" wheels too!!!

Sure you can put 18's on your car, do some reading on here.

I have the 18" Z06 replicas which are decent for the price.
I have used NT05, NT05R and now the MT drag radials in 305/45-18

The NT05 was hit or miss, the NT05R was more hit than miss and the M/T is the best by far!!

Ehh!!!!!!! I'm so lost on what to do lol..

Screw it..I'll just get 2 setups. I'll just keep my stock Pirelli's on stock wheels for daily driving and get either NT05R's or MT's and 18" Z06 wheels for dragging.

Two questions:

What specs do I need for the tires? Where should I buy them?
What specs do I need for the wheels? Where should I buy them?

It's not that difficult.....if you want the cheapest route, just get 20" NT555R's for your stock rims. You can certainly daily drive on them, many people do. They will wear down faster than a normal tire, but you could probably get about 10k miles out them if you're easy on them. They will get better traction than your stock tires by far. If you have the funds for new wheels and tires....then go with 18's. You can get Corvette replica wheels (18x9.5 +40mm offset) and put a 305/45R18 on them. You could even go with NT05R's or M/T tires if they are going to be track tires only. If you're patient, you can occasionally find these wheels/tires in the classified section for a pretty good deal. If you have the money for other aftermarket wheels, then go for it. Stick with 18x9.5 at a minimum, and put 305/45R18's on them, that's what most people do here. It all depends on your budget.

sherm,

I ran half of last summer with 275 555R's on back, and my stock tires rotated to the front on a full set of 20x9's.

I went 12.37 with pretty much the same mods in your sig with this combo.

I've had the 555R's in heavy rain, never had any hydroplaning.

I added a converter we'll see if the tires will hook still.

Just get you a rear set and bring them to the track with you. With an inexpensive racing jack and impact wrench, I have mine changed out in no time.

I can't use my stock 20's with those, right? Plus that'd look stupid lol. So I would need to buy 2 rims and 2 tires? Should I get NT05R's for the fronts too?

You could run something like these just on the rear at the track only. It might look a little weird (18's in back and 20's in front), but it would definitely be functional!!! Or you could buy a pair of 18's to go on front too. But you don't want to run drag radials in the front....only on the rear. The "R" on the end of the NT05R or NT555R designated "drag radial". You can also buy just regular NT05 or NT555 without the R, that would be great up front. I know the NT555 comes in a 265/50R18 that would be a perfect match to a 305/45R18 rear.

Sooo...

I decided just to do NT555Rs on the back with my stock rims. Cheapest way to go and that way I won't have to swap my tires each weekend I want to go racing. I'll eventually buy a better drag setup but I think this should be fine for a few months.

Thanks again for everyone's help!

Good decision!!! Try it out see how you like it, and go from there....

I really did not care for the road ride of the drag radials and they did not do so well in the wet weather. I got sideways more than once. But I am running about 600 to the wheels so if you are stock this should not be an issue I would not think. As much as I go racing, it was just no big deal to change them out and have the driving comfort of the street tires. Try it out and see if you like it.

Ya I figure that worst case scenario I don't like them and then just decide to go with my 18" setup.
