Another necro bump... I found this thread and I'm still confused..

2014SS here. I was playing around with it today and mine seems to start off in 2nd no matter what mode the car is in. I put it in "M" (sport mode), come to a dead stop, then take off... if I click the downshift paddle, it downshifts into 1st, which means it must have started off in 2nd.

I had always assumed that Sport Mode used 1st gear, but now I am thinking it doesn't.

our car will always start in second since our 1st gear is so aggressive. the gas pedal is sooo sensitive with the car in first gear. you're going to have to put it in 1st yourself whenever you want to. it kind of sucks but for some that doesn't know how sensitive our car is in 1st its kind of a good thing lol.

I remember the 1st time i tried my ss in 1st. I almost couldn't stop the car from jumping forward in spurts like I was in a texas rap video lmao...

You guys with a 2014SS A6. Does your owners manual explain this starting in 2nd gear thing? Because if it does then they changed things since 2012. My 2012 starts in 1st gear always, unless I am in tap shift mode. When in tap shift mode and coasting to a stop letting the car downshift automatically it will be in 2nd gear. I can select 1st gear if I choose to. That is the only time my car is automatically in 2nd gear at a complete stop.
