I am trying to decide myself between the two. The car won't be my daily driver, but whichever one I choose it will probably only see the track 2-4 times per year. I already have a Z28 with a stiff suspension, and no A/C which is pretty much unuseable in the summer in Louisiana. Part of me wants the Z28 for the same reason I love my 1LE (3rd gen), hard core race oriented top of the line 5th gen. The other part of me says getting the ZL1 I can actually haul people around in when the temperature is above 80 degrees.
I'm still waiting for more info on the Z/28 to make my decision.

How does anyone with the exception of a few GM insiders have any idea how a Z/28 rides?

Just put a blower on your SS.

Or put an LS7 in your SS.
Because then you just have a modded Camaro. Magnusen charges over $7K for one of their kits. It's not CARB certified for a 2013. It will cost another 2 - 3 thousand to install (provided someone else does it). Which puts you into ZL1 price range. Then you just threw your driveline warranty out the window. Might as well get a ZL1. |

Honestly I would LOVE to have the Z-28 over the ZL1. That being said, it would have to be as purely a toy versus an every day driver. The ZL1 could be an everyday driver more than the Z-28 in my opinion. It is missing basically every creature comfort that they could remove from it. That could equal a harsh ride. But again, this is all speculation because I tend to drive cars with very stiff suspension anyway, so maybe it wouldn't be that big of a deal when set up on the lightest suspension setting. Maybe I can buy a used one as a toy one day. I'll have to suffer with the 2k14 SS 1LE that I'm buying instead.

For me It will all depend on the cost of the Z/28. If it's in Z06 corvette land, then I will stick with my ZL1. I don't believe most people will be able to get a hold of one anyhow.
Jay Leno, and Rick Hendrick type people will be the only ones other than performance shops that have deals worked out with GM already to be able to play. I bet Rick Hendrick ends up with number one just like all the other special GM products before it. |

The Z/28 does not have adjustable suspension.

I don't care about CARB certification. I never plan on living in CA. Warranties are overrated I was just making the point that, if someone just paid off a 40K car, what's the big rush to go out and blow 60K unless you've got money burning a hole in your pocket. Put 10K into the SS and you've got the same power as a ZL1. Yeah, it's not a ZL1, but you'd also have an extra 50K to play with. I guess I just have a new found love for superchargers
