Magnaflow uses 409 Stainless opposed to 309; it is less prone to cracking under the constant heat cycling. I have used Magnaflow for over 15 years and they don't rust. They also carry a lifetime warranty when purchased through an Authorized Dealer.

I had a 98 Z-28 with Magnaflows I just sold a month or so ago. I had to go get an exit pipe welded before I sold it because it broke off at the muffler due to rust. Can't say I am going to put Magnaflows on my 2010.

Was your system Stainless or did you have the old aluminized mufflers? That would be covered under warranty 100%.... I've had just about every type of muffler on the market and Magnaflow holds up the best IMHO. I had Flowmaster's rust in 3 years and the chambers blew out.... I currently have a Stainless Magnaflow system on my 2500HD and I live in UT; it still looks awesome!

I've seen every manufactures systems have some type of problem. Can't beat the Lifetime Warranty.

I bought this system from Mike at Gforce (First page) for less than anyone else is asking. It sounds loud and mellow on acceleration and then almost inaudible cruising at 65 in 6th gear--just what I wanted.

And When you blip the Throttle, you get a Really Nice Rumble and/or Roar, Right?

That sounds really good, pretty much just like the stock sound just amplified...

It sounds different than expected....It definitely roars vs. a rumble when you blip the throttle. The idle note is great too, very low and rumbly.

So, I am now torn between the street series 16579 / 16481 with three mufflers, and the competition, with the delete. I love the rumble and deep tone but I don't want the entire car resonating with tons of cabin noise. I need some help making my mind up. Anyone have any new suggestions not mentioned in this older thread? I was thinking about the competition series 16482, instead of 16580 because of the square tips, which will match the squre exit on the GFX. I believe it is the same setup except for the square tips. I don't understand why magnaflow has both the square tipped stock numbers also listed as "GM PERFORMANCE PACKAGE ONLY". Maybe someone could clarify this for me? ~Thanks.

You need to consider your future plans. If they include headers at all then you'll want to go with the street series (3 mufflers)....if not go with the comp series. It's been mentioned many times before that the street series is pretty quiet without headers. With headers you're all good. Now....if you're going to go the header route you should probably consider the Magnaflow 3" cat-back with mufflers. They sound really good with headers...a little more deeper sounding with the 3" vs 2.5" system.

Here is an L99 with ARH headers and 3" Magnaflow system.
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56347

Now if you don't plan on headers then you'll probably want to go with the Comp Series system. Personally I'm probalby going to do a custom setup of a muffler delete and the Magnaflow resonated X-pipe...this is basically the same thing as the Comp Series cat-back. I did some local asking and it looks as though I'll be able to get the setup done for about $250 ($95 x-pipe, $80 muffler delete, $60 x-pipe install, + tax). This will be my setup for a while until I gather up enough money to do LT headers and 3" cat-back.

At this point I've just got to get the Camaro first (TPW: 1/25/2010 )

I went with kooks lt headers and magnaflow comp series (16483). Should have them installed within a few weeks. I'll post video when I do.

I have had the 2.5" Comp series 16580 installed on my car for the last 2 weeks. So far I am loving it, except when the AFM kicks in. So my way around that is to use the manual mode until I get it tuned out.

It sounds much different in person than on that video. The video does not do the system any justice at all. It sound much deeper in person. There is some resonance while driving when under a load, but when you get into cruise mode you can not here it, almost like stock until you get back in the throttle.

This is the sound I was looking for. I would like to do headers in the future, so I will se how it sounds with them before moving onto something else.

Hi ZenFire!

Welcome to the forum! The 16481/16482 are the systems Magnaflow designed for the GFX package and the tips won't fit on the standard SS, the 16579/16580 will fit the GFX but I'd go with the specific GFX systems because it matches the body kit. The only difference between 16481/16579 and 16482/16580 is the tips.

Is your Camaro the L99 (Auto) or LS3 (manual)? What other mods do you have planned? If you think you might do Long Tube Headers I'd stick with the Street Series 16579/16481, if not the 16580/16482 sound great!!! We're offering deep discounts on all of these systems. Please feel free to call, email or PM me anytime with questions or for pricing. Have a great weekend!

Kind regards,

The 16483 3" is my favorite system in terms of design and sound!!! It's going to be a monster!
