And I couldn't love without the HUD. I can't see the speedometer. I'm not sure if it's because the HUD is so convenient or if dash just poorly designed. I hope I never have these issues.

Until the first time my HUD faded out, I never realized that I've never so much as glanced at the speedometer. I was driving down the road and something just looked off, like if you pull out of a parking lot and you get a block down the road before you realize your headlights are off.

Mine has the fade out problem and the way both my local dealer and the Chevy "customer service" people handled the situation really got me down. As a matter of fact, that's the last time I even talked to my dealer. Quite a shame, really. I would have bought cars from them for the remainder of my natural life if they had treated me like a human being. After I bought the car, I had them do the tint, had them service the car, even paid them to change the rear diff fluid at 20k. But in the end, you just don't matter to some people.

Then pile on the form-letter response from the Chevy Customer Support on this site. That really got me mad. Mad enough to break stuff. Bah! HUMBUG!

Just a shame because this is an effing incredible machine.

I have a 2013 2SS Convertible and I bought it new (leftover stock) the day after Thanksgiving 2014. I noticed that the HUD did this a few times and reported it when I brought it in to deal with some post-delivery deficiencies they needed to fix. Over the winter, it didn't seem to happen again. Just this weekend, I replaced my aftermarket winter rims with my stock rims and noticed that on my way to the gym tonight the HUD did the fade in / fade out deal again. I'm not sure if it's weather related, or related to my tires, but it's an interesting coincidence.
