Its scary to see that the majority of the respondents would rather break their car rather than wait just a little while and break it in. Sad.

tag, i dont see anything but faces on ur last post
and apparently the breaking in comes within the first 25 or so miles. idk. but all i know is ima change my oil after 20mi. then got regular oil for the next 1500 and then switch to full synthetic

^I was kidding...like I was going to tell you how to get in. Obviously I'm partial to arresting those who break into cars...not the other way around!

On-topic: Seriously, the best advice seems to be to vary the rpm range greatly within the first few-hundred miles, and do NOT push it past 80-85% power during that period. I will also heed the advice to run normal oil during the break-in. Unfortunately -- this means you would have to do a complete oil flush/refill after picking it up off the lot (I'm assuming some synthetic will come in it from the factory <Mobil1>). But, it's a price worth paying. At least we won't have to deal with the tricky dry-sump system that comes in the new Z06/ZR1 Corvettes. Any other suggestions? PS- "Drive it like you stole it" from the dealer is NOT a sound idea. It might not BREAK, but it won't "seat" as well as one that was broken in.

I've been told by others, (as well as dealers) that with todays engine's, a "break-in" period isn't necessary.
But I'm "old school" (a trait I got from my Dad), and for the first 500 mi., I'll be taking it easy. I'll avoid driving it at a sustained speed for the first 500 mi. as well. Then at 1000 mi., I'll be changing the oil. Once I hit 1000 mi., it'll be time for some "stretching of the legs".

Well after reading a bit more in this thread and after listening to the podcast linked I think I'll go easy for the first 500 miles, and as for oil changes follow the drivers manual.

Yup, on the DIC (driver information center, just a 1 line text screen) you can cycle through and it will have an oil life gauge. I found it to be pretty reliable. Most people I have talked to said you can possibly get it up to 7000 miles, and it usually tracks pretty close to hitting 0% every 7000 miles. I get it changed a bit before that to be safe. My salesman actually told me to change it when it hit 50%, but of course he just wants the business for the dealership.

what do you mean winter of next year even though you want to drive it in april 09. april comes before winter, unless you live in like australia.

the car isnt produced until october of this year. which meens i wont get mine until at least begining of 09(april). and im not driving it in the snow. so if i get it in the first quarter of 09, then im storing it until the weather breaks here. and im not in australia, im in ohio.
