Great! I've been looking for a billet-styled cap (similar to the original on the concept), and I like the 'style' of Defender's, but from the photos, it looks less than GM's (which is def disappointing).

I look forward to hearing when you know.

Jack

I agree that as the manufacturers continue to develop products the style and quality will improve..

I'll post what defenderworx says...
Per Brian at defenderworx on my question as to whether their fuel doors are billet carved or sheet aluminum stamped:

"6061 aluminum billet. The door starts out in one solid block of aluminum and is carved into the door you see. The machine time is about 40 min and then it is polished and plated. This is not sheet metal or cast. It is the real deal top of the line fuel door."

You do need to see it in person to see the quality and richness of their fuel door...

Hey don't mean to be out of line here I like the style of your door Heat Metal and its great to see some other people working on fuel doors and accessories. For some clarification yes our DefenderWorx door is made from 6061 aluminum billet. All I can say is that i hope the people reading this thread buy a fuel door regardless of the fact thats its this one or ours. I'm just out to support the after market community! Keep it up Heat!!

Camaro Fuel Door Update

Do you have a model that locks? Something that will keep the thieves from stealing it?
Hey thanks for the comment, this post actually got quite a bit more traffic than I imagined so I will try to cover most of the comments in this reply.

Our Fuel Door is not a 'locking' door but it is a direct replacement for the factory door.

We thought of theft being an issue so on the back side of the door we drilled and tapped a hole for a set screw that 'bites' into the plastic hinge securing the door in place. It is fairly simple to remove the OE door and with ours the hardware absolutely has to be removed in order to take the door off.

As for materials used on the doors that have been referenced on this page, both our door and the locking door that is posted are machined from Billet Aluminum. I will post an article about materials to help with many misconceptions of the loosely used term - BILLET.

The door that GM offers through their accessory catalog is a cast part, which means all of its characteristics are ingrained in the mold from which it came. So the 'brushed' look that is on that door really looks like waves in the material.

Our process for achieving a brushed finish is much more complex. Here is a picture of our Gun Metal fuel door with different light.

The pictures do need some improvement they do NOT do the parts any justice! The first person in AZ who will let us take some pictures of their car with our Fuel Door can have it for free. Preferably not a Silver car since that is what we have. Kind of a promotional deal… if you want to drive from any surrounding state or NY for all I care, first person to offer their car gets it.

Thanks,
