Just read the whole thing. Hmmmm, leaking valley cover eh? First question that comes to mind, in light of the fact that thread began circa 2010, is that one would think the updated design of those covers would already be in a 2013 model like mine? Unless I misunderstood? In reference to those TSB's, I shall take off my spark plugs and observe for any oil contamination. I'll pull off my throttle body for good measure, and stuff a white rag in the intake manifold, and see what's going on in there as well. Thank you again for that read! |

If you are getting that much after only 1k miles somethings wrong somewhere.
I empty mine every oil change (about every 6-7k miles) and I don't even have 1/4 of that much in mine. |

Actually it's 1553 miles
.When I first bought my car with 25km on the clock, I remember that during the first couple hundred miles, perhaps a bit more, I wasn't even able to make the tires spin even just a bit, on a fresh paved slick surface in 2nd gear. I mean, power was nowhere near 400hp. I'm sure blow by was ridiculous during that stage. Power around the 500 mile mark really suddenly began to pick up, I had to be careful now with the rear end with traction/stability on off. This wasn't the case before, not even close. What I'm driving at (pardon the pun) is, having carefully read the threads on the leaking valley covers, I don't seem to be collecting as much as some of the other guys, but then again, I'm collecting way more than some of you in the "tablespoon" category of oil collection. I wonder now, in my case anyways, a) what proportion of that oil in the can is still a result of blow by from a brand new engine that hasn't had its rings seated properly yet, b) how much of that oil is a result of a leaking valley cover, c) theoretical speaking, there is one guy on this forum who is the hardest driver, could that be me? Lolll... Just thinking out loud. |

I read quickly through that thread last night. I'm sure I missed stuff.
In my opinion if you have your problem I would go to the dealer with the knowledge of a possible leaking valley cover and the pictures of your full catch can. When the mechanic starts messing with your car politely ask to watch so you can learn/figure out WTF is going on. My reasoning is that you want them to see how bad it is instead of "destroying some of the evidence" trying to investigate it yourself. |

I do not have a catch can yet. But if my car spit out that much oil that quickly,
I would do a leak down test.

More out of curiosity, I would like those with catch cans on now, on brand new cars, to report how much oil is being collected under hard driving
.

After driving across country in my 1LE (about 2600 miles), I had no more than an inch of oil, and probably less, in my catch can. So I'd say that's abnormal. However, have you talked to Elite? It seems like they'd be the people to talk to over the dealer initially.
The other thing that concerns me is the lack of power you mentioned. Compared to my experience, that I'd say is abnormal. While my car has definitely gotten stronger and louder upon the engine breaking in, I certainly could spin the tires if I needed to early on. It's always had good power. I did not check mine while on a x country trip (3000mi). When I got home the can was full. I do drive "spiritedly". Car runs strong and now has 7800mi. I check it and drain every few weeks......and get a few ounces each time. It does not drop on the stick as much as I would think.

No of course not, as I indirectly mentioned a few posts ago.
If I was still driving it, I'd have more data and observations collected, and therefore clearer idea of what's really going on. Thankfully, we have warmer climates elsewhere where brand new Camaro owners reside in , and hoping they will continue to chime in.

Can't wait for spring and bring closure to this saga. I'm also debating right now as we speak, if I should just go ahead and replace the valley cover and its gasket myself, for good measure....I mean, the car is sitting away for the next 6 months, so for the price of a coffee a day(cost of valley cover), it couldn't hurt? Alas, can't find a DIY writeup (yet) on valley cover replacement. |

Well, the catch can issue definitely seems to be happening to several other people. I wonder why no one from Elite has chimed in on this discussion yet. I'd be interested to hear what they have to say.
