I wonder how it would look with the flat black strips? Would it be glossy on the lower half, and flat on the top? Has anyone done this with flat stripes?
?

you are correct, it will gloss up the matte black.
you can still do the bumper, which is going to get most of the impacts.

I usually lay the hood piece on, line out the areas to be removed and then apply the film. It will cover all of the hood except the flat black areas. Its not tough to do. I installed flat black vinyl a couple of years ago on a Corvette and left it uncovered. The rest of the hood was protected and you couldnt even tell it was on.

Stripes go on first, wait 7 days, then a clear bra. My clear bra has already payed for itself. Took a rock in the hood, no damage to the paint.

You can stripe over the clear bra. It looks better to do the full hood and then stripe over it... if you dont then you will have a little edge where the stripes drop off of the clear bra. I also apply the clear bra to seem up to the stripes... especially if they are a flat or matte finish. Takes a little work but looks much better and still gives you protection.

I have a clear bra on my Camaro SS (all front sections and lower hood section just below the stripes).
Isn't one of the benifits of a clear bra the ability to remove it easily if needed (and replace it with a new section)? My clear bra has already taken on some minor damage (but it has worked perfectly protecting the paint underneath)
I would think with stripes over the bra, it would be a major PIA to replace the bra if needed.

You are correct... but, the other way of looking at it is if you want to change out the stripes (say to another color) then you will have to remove the clear br and the stripes. So either you are having to replace the other. What I was trying to get across in the last post (I was driving down the road using my iphone so it didnt come out well) is that if you are going to go over the clear bra you really want to do the full hood with paint protection film. If you dont then it will be very noticable where the stripes drop off onto the paint. If it was my car I would stripe it, then do the full hood over the stripes to protect the vinyl from getting nicked up. But I get a pretty good discount on film (and no labor fee) when I install my own. So if I ever wanted different stripes it wouldnt cost as much...

I would rather just repair the chip damage than have to look at the line of the clear bra. It would detract from the beauty of the car, at least in my eyes.
