MODs...please kill this thread with fire.

As a V6 owner I really love my car, and these V6s are no slouches. But nobody here...even the OP thinks its just as fast as the V8s. It just didn't impress him. For whatever reason...it didn't.

Are there V6 owners that feel a need to justify their purchase???

YES

Are there V8 owners that have superiority complexes and feel a need to knock down any who attempt to downplay their manly purchase??

YES.

Now lets all play nice boys and girls.

have owned both and there isn't a massive difference in reality, but if you don't buy the SS out the gate your going to want it and it will nag at you. got a 2SS now and it will scare you if you push it, the 6 can get a little crazy but not to the level of the SS. at cruising speeds they are very similar.

I've been waiting since last week for another V6 vs V8 debate.. About time.

Also, when I had a V6 I would look at these type of forums all the time and there's no reason to try and make the guy feel bad. If the OP is happy and can tune out the V8 noise then stick with it..

There are certainly perks to the V6 (like cheaper gas!!).

A little secret for you guys (I used to own an Challenger RT) theres a reason why I love this car and joined the form.. just sayin.
How does the R/T compare to your current car?

I'm pretty sure my blue V6 is faster than any other color of V8...except the blue V8s

I will confirm what a couple of others have said about the SS, they have to be broken in. I was disappointed when I test drove mine, (had the 2LT RS), bought it anyway, and once they are broken in, they are definitely a different beast.

I have owned both, had the 2LT RS for 2 years, and the 2SS for 10 months now, both are great cars, but power-wise, there is a huge difference between the 2. The one you test drove, either wasn't broken in, or had bad gas.

The only time I miss the 2LT, is when I pull into a gas station.

i have a v6 for several reasons. it is fast enough for me. i test drove a 2010 SS manual a few months ago before i bought my new 13 2LT. there is obvious difference from stop between the ss and the LT. no question about it. but once you are on the highway, going 70, i cant tell the difference in either car . alot depends on what a person is looking for. i am not into drag racing, and to do the quarter mile a little faster in a ss over the v6 is insignificant to me. My v6 gets me from a to b, and does better on gas milage on 87 grade fuel. if a person is intereste in racing, tracking, etc, then the v8 is more appropriate. it just all boils down the purpose for which the car is intended. both cars are very fun to drive, and each serves a purpose. to convince a v6 person to get a v8, or vice versa (which dont happen often) is silly. thats like trying to convince someone to use French dressing instead of Ranch. to each his own, and neither is wrong. the camaro is just a great car, no matter the trim level.

I guess I'll chime in but let me put my shields up first, okay shields activated....

If it is not a V8 Camaro, what's the point? It's a sports car. Go buy a V6 Honda accord or something.

Both my 2013 LFX RS and the 2012 L99 were automatic transmissions. in terms of acceleration I felt both were on even playing fields. I noticed the power band bald spot that I normally experience in 4th around 5,500 grand disappeared in the L99 and it seemed as if it could push through with more notable but not a significant difference in power through 5th and 6th gear. My over all assessment? If your going for an SS buy the Manual or put the difference in cost into bolt on engine modifications into a 2LT (RS preferably) either way you slice it you'll get the most bang for you buck out of either 5th gen Camaro experience. Don't believe me? I encourage each of you LFX owners to head out to your local dealer and put L99 to the test yourself (minus the 2LS of course).
About the part I put in boldface:

You say that the "bald spot" that you experience in your car is gone in the L99

You say that it felt as if it (the L99) could "push through" with "more notable power" through 5th and 6th.

These things tend to suggest that in actuality, you did detect a noticeable improvement and increase in acceleration in the L99, which is another way of saying its not a level playing field; after all, the improvement would be the reason behind offering the V8 in the first place.

I'm curious about two things:

1) How did you make your comparison? just hopping in and hitting the gas hard when you could?

2) what do you mean by "push through"? I've been playing with hotrodded cars and old cars and performance cars since '89 and I've never heard that term. Can you describe that differently?
