Auto engineers today might work for several manufactures over the course of their career, so when one manufacturer comes up with some new innovation or building technique all others are right behind them the following year.
Ummmm no cars are not built the same.

Is Morgan Freeman driving Miss Daisy to the store in it while she's constantly bitching at him to stay out of the gas? Or is some kid riding the gas all the time like Tommy Lee on Pamela?

My Camaro just rolled over 90k miles and has only had one minor issue which was fixed under warranty. Still drives and looks like new. Very reliable cars.

NO OFFENSE but i know american cars are not very reliable, but i just love camaros. everytime i see 1 on the streets i get a little excited.

thanks
No offense, but I've had three Honda cars, every one of them was in the shop more than ANY American or Japanese car I've ever owned.. Perhaps I've just gotten he bad one each time, but I don't think so. I know of folks that have had "reliable" Hondas, I just don't think it's the norm and to be expected. A car with 70k is not reliable, these days a car should be able to easily turn 6 digits+ with minimal service

Awesome reliable Hondas I've owned
Blown head gasket on a mid 70's CVCC Civic at 60k miles that destroyed the engine. Awesome car, loved it dearly and paid $1,800 (more than I paid for the car) to rebuild the engine. Within a few months it lost a couple of valves. The Honda dealer trained mechanic at the time told me I should sell the car, I didn't listen.

Blown head gasket on a mid 80's Accord at 75k miles that also destroyed the engine. The dealer's service writer told me it's quite common (gee, it happened to me a few YEARS earlier, you'd think I'd learn)

The final straw was a 2006 Civic Hybrid that was in the shop many times for ridiculous issues I've never seen on ANY car. Brake backing plates that worked loose (3 times) a bad alignment from the factory that ate a tire within 10k miles then finally a failed transmission at 100k!! All highway miles, perfect "by the book" maintenance (complete with multiple trans flushes with $15/qt trans fluid) and this was a "high quality" car built in Japan, not Ohio. Luckily we had the extended protection, they can't repair the CVT and the trans would have cost us $7800 out of pocket.. The day we picked the car up from the repair, we drove it right over to the Mazda dealer and bought a Mazda 3 sport. The only plus was that there are still people that believe the Honda mythology so the resale wasn't horrible..

Horrible & crappy American cars I've owned
88 Chevy Beretta - 249k miles coils, steering rack ass'y, heater core and a fuel injector. Other than that, just normal maintenance items (tires, fluids, filters, shocks brakes etc).. It's still on the road today.

94 Camaro - 198k miles exhaust, fuel pump, rear thrust adjustment. Other than that, just normal maint

2002 Suburban - 176k miles AC compressor and normal maint.

NONE of my American cars has had issues requiring a dealer visit before 100k.

back in 1970, there was a myth that all Japanese cars sucked and always would. Today, we have a different myth

no easy answer to this, as a lot depends on the model. no manufacture enjoys top ratings in every category, and likewise none are at the bottom of every catagory.

for example, a civic is probably tops in the compact segment and usually run for at least 300k miles problem free. for midsize cars it's almost always the Camry. (Toyota is rated the highest in reliability).

now the good news, the camaro, is, or was, the best rated in it's class. of course the bad news is, it's a small class that pretty much only includes the camaro, mustang, and challenger. also, it's only been around for 4 yrs (barely), and not many out there have a lot of miles on them.

now the last bit of good news, GM gives a 5yr 100k powertrain warranty on all it's vehicles, so even if something were to happen, you'd be covered. additionally, you can purchase extended warranties also.

and lastly, my opinion . I don't worry about mine. I think the domestics do, and always have, built pretty solid V6 and V8 motors. their problem has always (IMHO) been small motors. I'd be hesitant to buy a domestic car with an inline 4. the foreign car companies have always built better 4 cylinder engines.

My side airbag hardly ever comes out, only when I'm in lateral crashes!

Okay, but seriously... 2011 V6, which I drive very hard. 63,000 miles (did I mention hard?), and so far, here's the list of things gone wrong:

Once, the little plastic cover over the seatbelt anchor on the driver's side started to jiggle a little, because somebody getting into the back seat pulled it off. I snapped it back into place with a deft index finger/ thumb manuever... took about two seconds, including inspection time.

Whew... that's the whole list!

2013 1SS - 12,000 miles, zero problems. OP, when you say "american cars are not very reliable", you must be living in the past. American (with a capital "A", thank you) cars sucked in the 80s, improved significantly in the 90s, and have met the 21st millennium with outstanding products. The 5th Gen Camaro is a terrific automobile, as are most American made vehicles these days.

You're safe, Camaros are not a American Car, they are Canadian Built, developed in Austrailia, by a Korean designer.

Just buy a consumers report annual auto issue and read it.

2011 SS/RS with 33,000 miles and the only malfunction that needed a repair was onstar battery needed to be replaced.

Now as for the friggin' deer that went through my front clip and right fender, Im calling that and act of nature.
Other wise she has always run good and purred like a lion!
