I have always heard the ls motors hate heat. So I wouldn't see how the 160 is a bad thing

The cold air intake certainly helps, but it only gets you about 60% of the way from the air filter to the combustion chamber. Air still has to travel thru the throttle body, intake manifold and cylinder head intake runner. All these components heat the air as it travels thru. If they are 165 degrees they won't heat the air as much as if they were 200 degrees. As far as the knock retard goes, I have attached a copy of my dyno sheet. The blue line is the first pull at about 170 degrees will minimal knock retard (388 HP). The green line is the second pull with warmer water temps and more timing removed (376 HP). The third pull is the red line with even more timing removed from the motor (372 HP). This is on a stock motor with cold air intake, stock tune and 160 degree thermostadt. I should note it was at about 9:00 pm at night and around 50 degrees. Another totally stock LS3 made a single dyno pull a few minutes before me, but his engine was very warm after a run down the quarter mile, probably around 200 degrees and he made 360 HP. I really don't want to get into a debate on the matter, I think the facts speak for themselves.
