This is good. If you work hard for it, maybe you will take good care of it ya?

Just be careful, and while that phrase may seem over used, losta times the most dangerous thing people do each day is get in the car and go to work. Take care of it and respect it and you will enjoy it for many years!

My first car was older than me, rusted, no a/c, no power ANYTHING, only fired on 3 cylinders on cold days, and I loved it! Like the dad in Transformers said, "it's his first car. It's supposed to be like that."

I've worked my tail off for this car..I'll be turning 20 in Oct. and should take delivery of my 2SS/RS around the same time..

..to find out more..check out my whole story..

I believe it all depends on the "kid"..I agree that there are some out there that do not deserve this car..I want to thank the OP for making this because there are some good kids still out here..

i think my parents car, and i am paying for a lot of the car myself, not sure if i am i kid, since i am legally an adult. its a graduation(top 15%)/eagle scout present....and i never did any of the things that you mentioned...ive had a 4th gen camaro since i was 15 and i have never gotten a ticket. and im sure im AT LEAST as passionate about the new camaro as you are, so i will take excellent car of the car, better than a lot of other people will....as far as keeping up with the jones, i am getting the car because i love it, i dont care what everyone else thinks about it, im sure people will say its not a really sports car or muscle car since it is a V6 auto...and i also plan to keep driving my 4th gen to school and such, i trust my self with the car, but i do not trust my class mates not to ding my doors. that is all, thanks.

I take offense to this, true at nineteen I may not have a very good concept of my mortality, but I feel I have an excellent since of money. Stealing, drugs, and babies all have one thing in common, they cost a hell of a lot of money, and the more crap I do like that the longer I'm going to have to wait for my Camaro to be parked in my driveway!
In short stupidity costs too much and I'll have no part of it!

Or maybe they just view vehicles differently than you do

Im 19 and will be 20 in october and i paid for a 2006 F150 XLT in a year which ran me $20000 and i ordered a black 2SS Camaro on 5/27. Insurance, Gas, and the camaro will be paid for by me. I already have put 9000 down in 2months and support myself. I think that if a kid my age wants to buy a car and can afford to without screwing up and is responsible enough to do so then its more power to him/her. i was also taught at a very young age by my dad and grandfather who both have passed away in the passed year that its very important to balance everything out and its been working out very good so far that is why i am able to do what im doing.

Yea man. Right now I drive a 06 chevy truck, already paid for courtesy of my dad . But I was always taught to respect other peoples property (especially there cars) I wash it once sometimes twice a week, and wax it once every 2-3 weeks lol. My dad made his way his entire life, and since I was twelve I've been mowing grass, doing odd jobs etc to buy things I wanted. (Then xbox, videos games etc.) But I sure will take care of this car even better then the truck lol.

And wow, 3 people turning 20 in Oct. lol I'm on the 4th what about the rest of you?

Whether my kid gets a Camaro would depend on many things.

Responsible
Considerate
Assists around house
Great grades
Respectful
Honest
Employment

If 80% of the time his attitude and successes are above reproach I would have absolutely NO problems cosigning for a Camaro for him. I would even go so far as putting him on our insurance. A car is a long term responsibility. If he had saved up for 20% of the car, did what I expected as in a long term proven track record, it his first step to being a responsible member of society.

Why?

My parents did that for me when I was young with my first car..a 68 Firebird 400.

I do not believe it has anything to do with "status" per se, but whether your child has the ability and capacity to be self sufficient and responsible. If he mucked up, be a parent, assess the circumstances and move on. If he was egregiously stupid, I have no problem parking OUR car and making him walk....while he is still paying the payment AND insurance. I am sure i could find him a 1990 Ford Festiva to drive to work.

A hand down truck? Be fortunate...I had to save and buy my car on my own. I would be happy to get a POS truck instead of walking.

I myself am 20 and have ordered a 2SS and will be paying for it with my own money as well as the insurance. I WILL not ever get close to abusing this car as i want it to retain its value. Who knows, when they stop making the V8's who knows how much these cars may be worth!!

Be careful, he could make take that Festiva, swap in the AWD Mazda 323 motor and have himself a high 12 second car like the Camaro without you even knowing it
