They had the car for the whole first week I owned it to complete this list. Picked it back up on thursday only to find some of the list had been addressed. Now ive detailed the car twice and it is obvious that 80%+ of the car has been repainted including under the hood inside the door jams, the roof, trunk lid, and whole ass end both rear fenders. Paint jobs is awful i couldve done better with a spray can. Seems to me more damage than i was actually told. Im super angry as it was supposed to be mild damage done by a child with a toy. There is no car fax report but I found out dealer has 10k deductible before it would go on car fax. I feel i have been duped and that something way more serious has happened to my car that they have not disclosed. What are my options here, what are disclosure rules in this situation? Do I demand they re repaint or demand they order me a new one at their loss? Had they told me the whole car had been painted or damaged I wouldnt have bought it or I wouldve asked more off the price. They said I have to wait until the owner of the dealership gets home from his vacation to find out anything else or how they want to handle this.

It's hard to tell the extent of any work they did, but the car does appear to have some kind of overspray/fall out on it. Whether that's from work, or just being in a poorly-controlled shop, who knows. Based on the pics it seems like something a professional cut/buff could clean up very easily.

If that's not satisfactory, have a very polite, level-headed conversation with the owner of the dealership and the sales manager about unwinding the deal. They would need to take the car back, undo any financing, and eat the loss of having to resell the car as a used/ pre-owned unit.

That might not be possible because you accepted delivery of the car as-is/ nothing promised, and probably signed the same? I know it's tough to see all that kind of stuff when you're excited about getting a new car, or not looking for it specifically.

Good luck, and keep us posted...

Just coming back from courtesy collision after looking over the entire car. The paint millage is way out of spec on the whole car. Paint on the passenger side is almost 8mil but on the drivers side its 13- 15.6 mil. Max spec is no more than 12mil and way less from the manufacturer usually around mid 3-5 mil. Ill keep everyone posted how the dealer handles this. Ive asked for a new car as the only way to properly fix this 1 is to completely strip to bare metal and start over.

Wow. That's "heavy", man.

I'd suggest no more "detailing" until you've had a "sit-down" with the owner.

Furthermore, in anticipation of this conversation, I'd make a physical list detailing each area and its "blemishes" and at the end of your list, summarize your thoughts and beliefs and what you'd like to see done to remedy this situation. If your effort falls on deaf ears, then consider getting GM involved.

I hope this works out to your utmost satisfaction. Keep us posted.

Just a thought...could the OP perhaps contact his insurance company?

If they explain what they were told the damage/repairs were, and the extent (and quality) of repair work that was done, they'd take a big interest.

First of all, they'd want to know if the car they are insuring is flawed to begin with. Second, they may believe that with the degree of undisclosed repairs, there may be an undisclosed safety issue.

If your insurance company gets involved, they may request a letter detailing the repairs from the dealer before insuring the vehicle. That alone might be enough to get the dealer's attention, and working toward a resolution.

The biggest problem for Joe is the fact that the car needs a complete re-paint and this will be on a Carfax report. So several things the chances that they will re-paint it perfect to his liking is slim to none (after all you spend $45k on a car u want it perfect), he is making payments on a vehicle he cannot drive while it's in the shop, and last this WILL show up on carfax thus when he goes to trade it in (I am sure Joe will be upgrading in a few years) they will ding them due to the car fax report.

Currently there is not a carfax incident but the dealer has 10k deductible which is what is scary. Alot has been done to the car and 10k is an awful lot of damage without hsving to report it. Not saying this car had all 10k worth but at least 6-8k from what other shop is thinking. Not a peep from dealer as of yet.

No carfax was needed because it was an unsold vehicle now that it is sold it must be reported. So I guarantee if they are only willing to re-paint it the re-paint will show up on carfax as they must report it.

Dealer just called, pretty much have to wait for owner to hear and see whats going on sometime tomorrow afternoon. Told them car is detailed, garaged and waiting to be traded or bought back. They said they now have a zl1 and a stingray in inventory if I want to trade the car in for exactly what I owe

Sure as hell hope they give you what you paid for the only downside is you had a trade so let's hope they give you equal to what your trade was unless it was a payoff. If this the one by the airport or Hwy 50?

17-year old "child" with a lead foot, maybe? Sounds like a repaint on the driver's side. Good luck.
