I love this forum, but that topic is about as old and beat to death as the V6 v. V8 argument, or the stick v. auto.
People are apparently still enjoying it...so I don't guess you'll be setting a new status quo today.

This POS Civic with (2) fart cans, that's right, 'Stereo fart cans' was next to me! I had to close my sunroof to try and escape the over the top fart can sound! All the loose body panels, like looking at a collage of loose crap! I just let him rattle on down the road!!!!

I remember being the Civic Trololol back in the day. I could only afford the little hatchback and a cacophony of aftermarket parts. It was bad man. Bad. Carbon fiber hood, wheels, springs, adjustable shocks, sway bars, intake, exhaust, headers, shifter.. the list goes on and on. Its what I had. It felt peppy, fast even. I felt compelled to challenge the occasional Mustang or Camaro. Of course I was placed squarely in my relative slot on the speed totem pole.

So when these guys do it, sometimes its jealousy, sometimes its admiration. There's a whole slew of reasons. Now that I'm on the other end of the HP spectrum, I feel like I know what's up and just let them handle their business. No harm, no foul.

I know what you guys mean. Just last month, some POS Reventon pulls up beside me, revs the engine and I smoke his crappy butt as soon as the light turns green. I don't have time to play with these kids and their POS cars.

That's about it.. Amazing how bloody fast these cars can be when they're the only ones that know it's a "race".. I regularly get the "snot beat outta me" by middle aged men in minivans! Gotta chuckle about it, at least with the fart cannons there's some indication they're "racing"..

I had a bunch of VW Bugs that were "fast" made a lot of noise and surprised a few folks, was never delusional enough to go for a straight line race with an American muscle car....

I SURE DO....I had a kid, 19 years old pull up at my brothers garage with a Cobra with a pro charger on it sounding like the engine was stuggling for air...He told me his fuel pump was put on the wrong way thats why it was sounding like that. Then he went on to ask me about my car. He says, "hey you have a 4.6 to right"? I said yea bro I have the 4.0 V6 engine, its a special addition...LOL...Then he went on blabbering about 800Hp civics etc...I just laughed inside...

It's not the imports that bother me, it's freaking mustang owners that piss me off. I can't go anywhere without one being a jackass. I just tell them to save my gas and tell their friends they won. I don't care....I fly apaches for a living haha! My ego is doing just fine....

I also remember being on the other side of the power spectrum. I would rev at much nicer cars in my younger days as well. The difference is, I had respect for what they were driving and I just wanted to see them open it up for my enjoyment. I loved racing various vehicles knowing I was going to lose, simply because it was fun anyway. I think there are still quite a few out there that are after the same thing. They may not all want to race you, some just want to hear an awesome car take off.

Funny you said that but yesterday I had some guy in a Mustang come flying up next to me. I noticed it was all decked out in GT500 bodywork and emblems. As it sat next to me at the light I said to myself that Shelby sure is quiet. As we pulled off I noticed it was a V6 and they didn't even bother to upgrade the exhaust I just smiled...

thats why the whole V8/V6 thing with this particular car never bothered me. If Joe Blow on the street in his civic or Dodge Ram pick-up think they are showing up a 600hp Bumblebee wanna-be then more power to them. the layperson can't tell the difference between V6 and V8 5th gens.

theatricality and deception are powerful agents to the uninitiated....
