1LT 11k difficult shifting into 2nd, then suddenly became impossible "brick wall."

It's been in the shop for a week, turned out to be a bad slave cylinder. There aren't any available so I'm waiting "patiently."

Any replacement kits that include a slave cylinder? I want my car back with better shifting if possible.

Try pushing the shifter with the palm of your hand from 2nd up into 3rd at a 15 or 20 degree angle. When I grab the shift knob and try to do an H pattern I don't move the lever far enough over or move it too far.
You can also get a rip shifter, which has a spring on each side of the shifter that pushes it automatically into the 3 - 4 shift position. Works great.
I would not rule out the CAGs. Even with a skip shift eliminator it could be the computer denying second or third.

So would this be a problem with the shifter or the tranny? I have the MGW and sometimes feel the grind from 2-3, and I am not half assing the clutch.

Are you sure you problem is not the "Skip Shift" kicking in? It prevents you from shifting to 2nd and tried to force you to shifting to 4th. There will be a display in the console saying go to 4th.

Any updates on this? For me, shifting into 3rd, while not out and out grinding, is pretty unsatisfying 75% of the time. Tried playing around with my shifting technique but I wanna be sure it's not something with the transmission...

this happens to me also, even after the 4 qts of royal purple stuff. im hoping the Hurst shifter will take away the notchy gear change feeling and 2nd to 3rd shift.

However, it very easily slid into first and to my horror the rpms flew right up to about 5000 as I let off the clutch. sounds familiar! mine had 300 miles on it and this exact same thing happened to me. Took the whole trans out when it happened. the only difference is mine happened on a spririted shift from 2nd to 3rd. 1st gear at 65mph is not a good thing. i had more than a few people tell me it was my driving, but i have been driving manual sports cars for a while now so its not like its my first time, guess its not just me. I would definately take it in and tell them about this because it is not right.

I am glad to see this post. I have been having the same issue, only it isn't related to "spirited" driving, it happens all of the time. It is rare to get a smooth shift in to 3rd. I have tried "palming" the shifter in to 3rd the way that has been described in this thread and it helps some, but I still get locked out or a grind/clunk when going in to 3rd. My car has 4k on it currently.

take it in, this shouldnt be happening. maybe if everyone that has a problem, even if it is something very little, GM will find figure out that they have a problem with this certain trans. When driving this car the trans. should shift with no effort what so ever. Ever since they put a new trans in my car i have had no problems yet.

mine has been feeling extra notchy when shifting form 1st to second. Its almost making it impossible to power shift. When im at a redlight and just playing with the shifter it feels notchy from 1st to second and just going straight into first from neutral. Then second also. but it does go into each gear just not smoothly. 3rd - 6th are fine!! but 1st and second both have that notchy feeling like its an extra shift. going from first to second is like push clutch pull shifter down into second, smooth then hesitation then into second. When at an idle with the windows down i can hear that 2nd makes a little more racket..clinky noise i guess u can say.. when shifting. all other gears are quieter. but first is a little bit noiser but second is the worst. Any thoughts? i do have the skip shift eliminator.

When mine is cold, it's a little difficult shifting into 3rd... very clunky. After it warms up though, it's smooth.

There are a couple that include after market slaves with there kits.

We have been fighting something along these same lines in the GS (Continental series) cars. The Tremec engineers in Germany are aware of an issue with these transmissions concerning the 2-3 shifts and are working on a fix.
