Thanks for the video. At least in the video the key portion looked a little less cheesy/flimsy than some pics I've seen. Still not something I'm willingly going to get done.

This is so stupid. Wouldn't the dangling fob be closer to your knee? That means your knee is now more likely to hit the fob. My knee is a good 5 inches away from the fob, it will never hit it. I'm keeping my switchblades.

Thats definitely a valid point. I'd imagine z/28 owners will have an opinion either way but I'd be all for a proper racing ignition switch.

I am saluting GM on this one. (Don't know what I'll use my other 4 fingers for, though!)

GM is asking for trouble with this recall. The issue isn't the fob, it's the low torque needed to rotate the key to the off position.
Here's a video of a GM with the non-fob key getting shut off the same way: Decide for yourself if the "new" fobless-key is going to solve the problem.

If you look, there is a press fit pin holding the key shaft to the switchblade

I know a few people who drive with their knees on the dash. It's very unsafe and weird, but some people like their cucumbers pickled.
In my video where Laura and I demonstrate killing the ignition with a knee it's clear that both of us have to put significant effort into switching it. It's not something that'll likely happen as an accident. |
