"I definately would not be as cavalier about the situation as you would be.. The last car I had bought brand new that had to have the bumper re-painted because the dealer screwed up, 5 years later the paint is peeling and looks like crap.. Have them order a new bumper from the factory already painted or don't accept the car. Plain and simple.."[/QUOTE]
I really should 'splain myself better. The "bumper" was just that black plastic thing that covers the lower rear. He said the top part was shattered. He pulled the one off the Rally Yellow they bought because they are all the same on the RS at least. He would not have even needed to tell us, but he is an upright guy and his name is on the dealership! The chip on the hood is not noticeable without a microscope, but they are repainting the entire hood. And if your paint is peeling after 5 years, somebody ain't doin something right.

I think we need to be careful about what is and isn't legally applicable as far as what a dealer must disclose as damage to any given vehicle. Various State/Provincial laws apply to what is called "disclosure."
In many cases, it is based on a percentage of the value of a given vehicle. If it is under that percentage (i.e. 10%, 20% ... or what ever the law defines) then the dealer doesn't have to disclose anything. It will vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Minor scrapes or dents that are easily repairable, are really not something about which I would get concerned. It is when you exceed a certain threshold level as defined by various consumer protection laws that I would take pause at a given purchase. THere was an article in this weekends paper about an inidividual who had taken delivery of a vehicle and found what amounted to a barely noticable scratch on the bumper. (Something which a professional detailer or paint person could easily fix. They were threatening to sue the dealer even though he acknowledged the fact that he missed the scratch at the time of accepting delivery of the car. Legal threats run wild! - See the ads on late night cable! LOL

Nobody here wants to buy a brand new damaged car. Chances are that a lot of us already have. Usually most of us get a car off the lot in which case any damage has already been repaired. My car was damaged on the trunklid and spoiler and repaired prior to my dealer getting it. Never could tell until we scuffed it for stripes. You could look at my spoiler and probably not tell but if I show you the spot you will see it. It's all good. I'm happy and it drives great!

If it were me, I'd just have them fix it like new. Otherwise, they could care less if you are the one buying it, since there's probably a waiting list...Wait again if you want to, it's your wait...

I hate this happened to you man, at least you were there and they couldn't "hide " it from you.
wait.....you only had to wait 3 months?????? WTF!! LOL To be sure they'll fix it right and treat you right.....the mechanic will probably give you free house calls for life! I can just imagine how embarrassed he is. |

I would let them fix it and make your decision then. if the dealer did a good job and you don't notice it take the car. Maybe even get a little price break on it..

Let em fix it, and give you a nice new shiny Chrome Camaro liscense plate frame and a case of Heineken.
Forget asking for a discount- won't happen. They can sell these cars right now for over msrp.

I would ask for two of his best mechanics and blast them in the nutz then tell them to get back to work with bruised balls.
It happens and hey its a small issue - I know I know its easy for me to say - You will be more happy driving the thing. I drove a camaro rental last week and it had a passenger dent real bad - It gave it a oh sh** moment for the people at the stop lights but heck I was driving the new camaro. It won't matter and no-one will know the difference. You got five dollars and I won't tell anyone. LOL Enjoy the car when its fixed!!!!

I'm wondering, if you don't take it, will they fix it and sell it off the lot without ever disclosing that its been damaged? I bet they will.
I would demand they fix it and reduce the price by $2K. Otherwise, order another one and tell the dealer that you're going to let the ultimate purchaser know that it was damaged.

news flash dudes, there is now way your dealer would be able to get a bumper from the factory painted. It just will not happen! Believe me I tried. When my wife's 2008 HHR SS came in, it had problems with the paint on the rear bumper. I pissed and moaned and ran it all the way to the top of GM to get a new bumper sent from the factory. It's not going to happen. Period. Save your energy, have them paint it, you'll be fine. Or if it bothers you that much, order a new car. It's not worth the stress Bro.
