I'm sure it's a decent amount. Look at the other "reality" shows that have been running for awhile especially the ones where they occasionally show the stars houses. If you compare the early episodes of swamp people, ax men, gold rush etc. And the houses and equipment they had at the beginning to the recent episodes you will see a lot of big money buys.

On a different note I've known a few guys that have been on the Ultimate Fighter. Back in about 08 or 09 the fighters that made the show were given a $38,000 sign on bonus and paid while they were in the house + the potential to win bonus money. That was only for a few weeks of filming and not as much as a whole season of the other shows. I don't know what the fighters are getting paid now but I'd assume it is more than in 09. I know some of the fighters also end up with local sponsorship perks. My friend that was on the Edgar Penn season got a free civic from a car dealership.

The show is semi fake but is still the most entertaining "reality" show for a car guy. Yes they shut down the street BUT the racing isnt fake. The camera angles arent the best BUT you get into the action all the way. I'll take watching this show over half the other crap on TV today. There are a few guys with GenV Camaros here in FL that I'd like to see run against some of those cars...I doubt they would get pulled on like the ones we've seen on the show so far.

I believe that some of if not most of those cars easily top the 100k mark in money invested. The El Camino was not originally an OKC car. It was built here in St Pete FL. The car was known for dragging the bumper across the Gandy bridge where people street race all the time. The owner of it here sold it to them years ago and they actually pulled a 25k motor out of it, sold it, and put together the one that is in there now. Supposedly the motor they have in it now is no where near as powerful as the old one..but hey..is what it is.

It's a neat show and it is entertaining. And they actually do their racing in very safe and controlled environments, so...

That news article was done a year and a half ago.

I think it's entertaining. I admit, I have it set on my DVR. Haha!

They posts videos on their Facebook page that shows the full in-car camera of the races from both drivers. Then it shows the shows edited view. The races are over very quick and would be boring to the masses, the reason why there are so many camera takes during the races.

We enjoy the show, get to see the drivers at Thunder Valley doing testing sometimes.

The show is fake on most levels for obvious legal reasons. But like many have said the slot position races and cars are real.

I think some of the other races that supposedly take place between the Farm Truck, Dung Beetle and random street cars are staged. I have no doubt both the truck and beetle are fast but I have never seen the truck lose to a non list car.
Ive seen the beetle only lose a few times. Some races show cars pulling on the Farm Truck good then they suddenly seem to loose steam and lose at the end. No matter how fast you are you will eventually run into someone faster but not the farm truck??!!

I have total respect for the cars they built and these guys driving skill but what annoyes me is there not street cars like you or I drive or the average person even races at the track. These are big budget race cars raced on the street.

I seen a lot street racing, most of those cars could drive around all night from spot to spot, had street tires full interior, working lights A/C and so on. Some were just guys weekend toys and others were cars people drove daily. That seems more realistic and interesting to me than race cars with big budgets. But I guess the masses who don't know much about cars would probably find that less entertaining.
