After researching more and speaking one-on-one with some members here, I think my tranny is in the same spot that others are, i.e. "normal." I read about loud throw out bearings, clutch chatter, gear lash, and short throw shifters that allow more noise to transmit, and I'm confident I'm hearing what I'm supposed to be hearing from the TR6060. Since I haven't had a single grind (knock on wood) or any "notchiness" that I think offensive, I'm counting my blessings. The "clunks" are mostly avoidable through smooth driver/drivetrain interaction.
D4 installed today anyway (along with a skip shift eliminator), given its reputation. I'm glad I did, although I'm not claiming the "night and day" difference that others have. The tranny is quieter in my opinion, but I'm not sure how much of that is placebo. The tranny is certainly smoother, though only marginally so. Cheers. |
