Well shoot. That's what I get for assuming, lol. I figured the SS took how much my LS3 C6 took. It surprised the heck out of me that my ZL1 takes eight quarts.

No, they did fill it to the proper level last oil change.

Increased oil consumption, is somewhat expected in my situation, however I am monitoring it much more closely now and keep two quarts in the trunk, always.
Thanks silverds, This sounds very similar to my driving style. I just never expected to see any oil consumption from a brand new/now used car

I followed the recommended break-in procedures. Did not drive over 80 MPH or 4000 RPMs for the first 1500 Miles.

Thanks davidcroft. I am pretty confident it was filled to the appropriate level at last oil change. I don't know the exact number of miles at last oil change. I believe it was 11,000+miles. I am now understanding how many of us are experiencing oil consumption now.

Let the dealer do an oil analysis (it used to be termed oil economy test) to see if there's a potential problem somewhere.
Thanks Ibis1

I spoke to the tech at the dealer. We are doing an oil analysis now. He wants me to stop by the dealership at 2000 miles to see where we are.

Thanks Kelly. I also thought that was alot of consumption. In fact when the low oil message came up I was really shocked! I have thought about a catch can. Now I think I am definitely going to get one.

I followed the Manufactures recommended break in. I did not drive over 80 MPH or 4000 RPMs in the first 1500 miles.

They did a consumption test twice in the 20,000 miles I drove the car and told me it had to use a full quart in 1000 miles before gm would replace the engine. I never got there but it was heading that way fast. I traded it. I never did figure out why it was burning all that oil. But the power was good right to day I traded it. Never have shown any signs of oil consumption on my ZL1 at all. But.... I have had 4 different sets of pistons in the car in about 12,000 miles, 376, 417, 427, 434. I generally just change the oil when I break in a new motor on the ZL1. I'm expecting to run this one for a while though.
Thanks, I am starting to theorize that perhaps the harder you drive it the more oil consumption we could expect?

Why did you have to replace the engines?

Thanks everyone for your input. I never thought I would see a new car consume oil almost right at the get go. I am going to check the oil level tomorrow to make sure they put the appropriate amount of oil in the car.
