Just wanted to update everyone. The job is done. Bought the part for $82 at my door and changed it. Saved a load of money and I even have fresh heat. It can be done.

Sounds like buying a shop manual is quite easy for you. You have to remember that everyone is not in the same place financially. I can't afford taking my car to the dealership to get fixed nor to buy a shop manual. This is why I'm apart of such a great forum. To get helped out when I need a bit of clarification on a part or two by a fellow member, not to get bashed because I'm asking for some help. I'm quite shocked by the negative response...

What heater core should you be buying so that it will last more than 5 years? I remember back in the day we put one in a Mustang that was from Autozone and we sure won't ever do that again, after 8 months of course they warranteed the part but we just got our money back and went to a better parts store.

Problem is, these days it's hard to get high quality parts. Obviously you wouldn't want another factory one because they go out too soon.

Damn! Op you are the man! I never liked heater core jobs in old cars. I can't imagine attempting that in my ZL1. I understand the concept of low funds turning you into a pro at everything. I learned most of my skills fixing things with my oldman because he couldn't pay for someone else to do it on a military income. You sir will be eating others and surviving when the day comes.

Were you not getting heat? I think I'm have the same problem. How much did the repairs cost?

i have to admit youre a lot braver than i am.i live in florida and would be rerouting the heater hose and doing without before tackling that job or paying the dealer.
