What most likely happened in your case is that the salesman misinterpreted the rules (which isnt surprising considering how confusing they are) and approved you for the incentive even though technically speaking the manual Camaro v6 does not qualify for C4C.

As far as what will happen now... I think there is a chance that the dealership may contact you in a few weeks looking for their $3500 if the government rejects the claim. If not though, and you slip through the cracks, then hey... nice!
it has been several weeks already. Here is hoping I like u said "slip through the cracks"

I stand corrected. The manual v-6 does not qualify. Dealer must've been using the old site and "interpreting" things a little differently.

btw stratman, are you gonna trade your S10 in? you totally should!
I was only considering it if it would get me into the Camaro sooner and I have to get an SS. Other than that, I had no plans to even trade it in. I've had it from new and after seeing what happens to the cars that get clunked I couldn't do it anyway I don't think. Plus there are tentative plans for the future of the S-10. And suprisingly on that site the combined on the S-10 is right at 18mpg.

I was one of the first ones to trade it in for cash for clunkers (Before the regs came out) and I am very happy with my new car!

With everything added together, I basically got a 2SS with the RS package for MSRP of a 1SS with the RS package, if you're including tax, title, etc.

Does anyone know if the trade-in has to be in your name? My buddy at work wants to get rid of his truck cheap, I'd pay him, and then have an open title.

I'd also have to revert back to a 2LT/A6, which I've been thinking about anyway; Lower price, better gas mileage, regular gas, lower insurance, lower maintenance, etc.

You can read the rules at cars.gov. Yes, the car has to have been in your name, registered and insured for 12 months continuously.

I traded in my 92 S10 Blazer for a Camaro.
I doubt it would have lasted much longer. Kinda hated killing it like that though.

No offense to anyone here but these government websites do not lie, they simply state facts and the 2 facts that apply to this situation are:
1. the manual v6 camaro is rated 21mpg combined
2. the new vehicle you get from the trade in must be rated 22mpg or higher (if it is a passenger vehicle and not an suv/minivan/truck)

Why does GM's website only list the V6 manual?

I suspect that the EPA site is balled up, and the V6 manual is actually beter mileage than the auto (falls to reason)...at least on the V6.

On the V8 it is actually correct that the auto gets better mileage than the manual due to the DoD feature in the L99 vs. LS3 without it.

But I couldnt bear the thought of them destroying my Firebird, so I decided to hold off and trade in a diff car sometime later (no CARS discount).

A girl where I work got a jewel red LT2 auto with cash for clunkers and she is just thrilled. She just walked into a dealer and picked it up while I've been waiting for months and months. She probably got the employee discount on top of it too. Yeah I'm a little jealous, except that I want a stick and don't have a clunker.

CASH FOR CLUNKERS Waiting on Uncle Sam

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...s/6579513.html

"Since Cash for Clunkers started in late July, Monument Chevrolet has sold 42 vehicles to people who took advantage of the incentive program, the Pasadena dealership's owner Carroll Smith said.

Under the program, a dealership takes up to $4,500 off the price of a new vehicle, and the federal government reimburses it for that amount.

There is just one problem for Smith. He hasn't yet been paid by the federal government for any of those transactions.

The Cash for Clunkers incentive program has sent consumers flocking to showrooms and buying cars, providing a much-needed boost for dealers. But the government's pace in paying back dealers has them under financial strain, Smith and other dealers say."

There was also an article in todays INDIANAPOLIS STAR about the program where a local dealer had said they have sold 83 vehicles under the program and only 2 of them have been processed by the government.
