It's really super easy to convert the new keys back to switchblades. It takes about ten minutes max. Use a hacksaw to "free" the actual metal key from plastic housing. Align it with the slots in the fob, put in that pin and voila! Switchblade!!!!!

Oh, and cars in the 20's had push button start.
I don't care about push button start either..

I do however care about bad quality and dangerously produced products with idiotic recall fixes.

the PROPER way for GM to have fixed the issue is to design a new ignition system that has the key rotated forward about 15° so that instead of inserting the key with the fob being horizontal (flat) when the car is running making it easy to whack and turn off, the key is inserted vertical so that when the vehicle is running the key is upright, and physically impossible to "accidently" turn off.

The Camaro key sits like this when vehicle is running:

it should sit like this to prevent the accidental turn off:

Exactly this. I too was like "WTF" when I received my keys and did not know the reason till I found the thread here on C5. I went to Harbor Freight, bought the $4 roll pin kit, and converted one of my keys to switchblade. Super easy to do.

I would highly suggest NOT doing the hacksaw method. I put my key in a vice, then used a pry bar and easily popped off the black plastic from the actual key. It did not take much effort. The roll pin was far more work than getting the plastic housing off.

Egad man! One does not exit one's Buick in cool weather to adjust one's carburetor. No no, instead we rather will enjoy the function of the thermostatic, dual divorced chokes on our carburetors, thoughtfully supplied by the good engineers in Flint Michigan.

Just reverted my key to a switch blade, very easy to do. $10 roll pin kit from a local hardware store and voila.
