Sorry, didn't see this post orginally...that is not rust that you see, it's just discoloration from the heat of the welds...Aluminized as well will do that also when you weld it, but it's just more obvious on the stainless as it's shiny.

L99 UPDATE

As most of you are aware, the L99 (auto) has the AFM (cuts half of the engines cylinders when power demands are low) system on it that switches on and off and can be felt and heard even on the stock system.

The R&D guys have been hard at it designing and testing a system specifically for the L99 auto cars. We have logged tons of hours db testing, many road miles, and have constantly been on the dyno testing.

We are just finalizing a system now that masks the sound of the AFM as much as physically possible as well as giving the car a deep exhaust note that it deserves.

The final prototype is on the dyno now to get the final numbers and I will let you guys know.

Thanks for your patience and sorry for the delays my updates as we've been moving forward with this car.

I added the borla S-type axle back to my L99.......I cannot stand the sound when the AFM kicks in. It is so irritating...I would have gotten the 6 speed manual if I had know about the AFM....I have a C6 Vette with the LS2 6 speed manual...dynatech supermaxx headers and b&b exhaust...kick a$$ power sound. This L99 sounds like a tractor when the AFM kicks in and out. Needless to say, I am very disappointed with my Camaro. I would have a tuner to deactivate the AFM, but I don't want to lose the 5 year/100,000 mi. warranty............................

I hear you! I wanted the Borla system soooo bad!!!! Nothing beats that sound! AFM is really aggressive. I know what you mean by the sound. I had to pass on the borla. I was in contact with Borla at the end of last summer to inquire if they would come out with a L99 specific system. They said no. They said pretty much they don't need to because it is small market of customers that have L99 and don't tune out the AFM. I was also told that they have these little cone shaped rings that you can install into the exhaust, after the x-pipe section I believe, to help out with the noise. They don't restrict exhaust gas flow, but they reflect some sound waves to help cancel noise. They just get tack welded in at your local muffler shop. There was a thread here with the part number, but Borla is too popular and the search won't go back far enough. I would call Borla and complain, ask about the little cones, discs or whatever they are. They would probably send them to you free. Tuning out AFM and possibly voiding your warranty isn't worth it! Warranty is too important to play with.

well damn. I am glad I am researching the hell out of this. I was sold on the Borla 'S' cat back until I read about how it sounds when AFM kicks in.
