I think we will see the ZL1 name survive and get the LT4. All we know is it will not be heavier than the current ZL1. Being based on the CTS version of the Alpha platform it will not be much smaller than the current car. It could weight less (100+-). As now the ZL1 will be a very capable track car and the new ZL1 hopefully will be less prone to heat soak.

I think Chevy will save the Z/28 name for a focused track car, if they decide to compete with the GT350. As for an engine, I think a pumped up twin turbo V6 would be very interesting. Turbos work out just fine on a racetrack.

Also somewhere I read a rumor of another version of the Chevy V8 in development.

Although all the Z/28s lingering in the showrooms (Some at 20% off recently) might discourage another Z/28 anytime soon.

If the next LT4 Camaro is named ZL1 or Z/28 it does not matter, it will be the same car. It will replace the current ZL1. Ford coming out with the GT350 might be enough to make Chevy save the Z/28 name for later.

And as for the 1LE name being an unknown, very few ever heard of the ZL1 before the current ZL1. Although it was a legend back in the day.

My opinion after talking to a Chevy Dealership owner. I have known for 30yrs. 2014 ZL 1's were hard to sell, he had 2 that were on the showroom floor more than 200days. He said at the last Chevy dealers meeting they were talking about how impossible it is to sell the Z/28. many dealers have at least 1 that's been sitting in the showroom since it came out. Something about a car for $75000 with no A/C or Radio does not sell well in the northeast I see this car to disappear. So what ever they do I expect they are trying to figure it out. Also the Z06 for 2015, and the ZR1 for 2016 well get the spotlight. 2018 café laws are going to strangle the industry all of them.

I see your logic. Having two different high performance and high dollar Camaros on the lot at the same time makes them compete with each other. Chevy already has a halo car in the Corvette so what's the point in having both the Z/28 and Zl1?

Possibly that since GM just dumped the 2015/14's at 20% there might not be a next ZL1?

I would not let the lack of a V8 in the ATS sway you. GM said from day one that the new ATS platform was specifically designed to handle a V8. Their market analysis just told them that V8's were not trendy in mid size luxury cars.

The new Camaro will have a V8. I'm still hoping that GM will follow the Chrysler lead and pull out a big trump card in the muscle car class.... It will probably be 2018 before we see the Camaro high performance model. I'm just hoping the Camaro loyal don't feel let down.

I have faith that the next gen Camaro will have at a minimum the same number of models once the car has progressed thru its development and production just as the current model has delivered. Their is no reason to suspect anything different.

I think the Z/28 goes away for 6th gen. What does GM have to replace the LS7? Nothing. Also I think the price point for the car kills sales since it is in the same arena as a (base) Z06. And it does not have the comfort features of a ZL1.

The ZL1 will get the LT4 but with a larger SC (2.3L hopefully)
The SS/1LE gets the LT1
The LS gets a V6 and or a turbo 4.

The 6th gen will be slightly smaller and definitely lighter. Would like to see 19" rims as the standard ZL1 rim size. Hopefully GM doesn't F'up the cosmetic side of it either like Ford just did with the Mustang.

[QUOTE=GenF-GTS;8152260]LT4 doesn't seem so fast anymore

Your not comparing apples to apples, the Vette actually give it a decent run considering how much more HP the Hellcat has....Try that Hellcat against the 2015 Z06 and see what happens.

Wasn't that Z06?

Besides, a stupid street roll race between 2 idiots is meaningless. We will see what happens with two good drivers at the drags. And if there are any turns then see what happens.

However Hellcats are still cool for what they are.

That was a 2015 Z06 vs the Hellcat supposedly....a stock ZL1 would get smoked by a Hellcat. No doubt a new 2016 ZL1 with an LT4 would not fare any better.

Off topic. That was a stock 2015 ZO6 M7 that was smoked by a Hellcat A8. It's the same ZO6 that went 10.93 on DR's in the now infamous Drag Shootout between Vipers, ZO6's and the Hellcat outside of Houston. The roll race was after the shootout. It was all over the vette forum with a mega thread. The Hellcat was trapping around 126 mph bone stock.

GM have it written as company policy that no other car in the GM line up is allowed to be as powerful as the corvette top of the line model, so you wont see a 2.3L blower on an LT4.
