Sorry to bring back an old thread here but any more comments about these tires? I'm looking to get some track-specific tires to replace the OEM GY's on my 2014 ZL1. There are plenty of great options for 19" tires but I can't find a reasonable set of good Z/28 wheels. Are these NT01's the next best thing? What sizes for the ZL1?
Thank you guys, |

I found a set of virtually new Pirelli Trofeos for $300 each so I stuck with them. Nittos show promise and are on the radar as "potentials" when the time comes.

I have extensive experience with NT01s, but not yet on this car. I picked 2 sets of Trofeo Rs and a set of MPSC2s during winter, and I'll need to go through them first The beauty of the NT01s is that they are the best compromise tires I've ever used. They're not too sensitive to pressures, they don't change behavior as they heat up, and most importantly, they are famous for being a consitent tire until they cord! With almost any other comp tire, you always wonder if it's you driving slower that day, or if the tires are heat cycling out or overheating.Rest assured, when I'm done with my current stash of tires, I'll switch to NT01s. My brother also uses NT01s, and he actually does not even bother removing them; he uses them during whole summer!

I had NT01's on my Lotus Exige and loved them. Now the Z28 is a much heavier car, so I would not expect them to last as long, but I remember getting good milage out of them (even on the rear).
Also, I would not just assume because the Trofeo R's are treadwear 60 and the NT01's are 100 that the R's are going to outperform the 01's. Treadwear is assigned by the manufacturer and there is not a real standard, thus it really means nothing. I remember my 01's being much stickier cold than the R's are. Without actual durometer readings at different heat cycle comparisons it really is tough to compare. The best way is to take both sets to a track (as sticker tires) and do alternate runs with them to really understand how they perform. If someone want to buy the tires I will volunteer to do the runs. ![]() I like the R's, but will probably replace them with NT01's when the time arrives just to feel something a bit different and see what I think. |

I ran 255/40/17 NT-01 on a 3400lb Evo that I ran in NASA TTS as I wanted a dual purpose dry/wet tire to keep the cost lower. They worked great and even held a track record in my class for 3 years at Grattan with them.
Now, I almost lost control on the freeway one day when it down poured and I had the car out (not my DD). With -2.5 camber in the front, the AWD without traction or stability and 383whp on fairly worn NT-01 I could not go above 50-55mph. It was a bad combination.

Well, are the lap times 2 seconds faster over the heat cycled and worn NT01?

I wanted to get a set to try it out once Trofeo Rs are done (which would answer your questions in terms of lap times, etc.), but it seems OnlineTires.com is our of stock. I just don't get why we keep having these tire shortages for many brands/tires in our cars' sizes.

These will be the next tire I run. Wish I didn't have an extra set of G2's to burn up. Budgets suck! :(

I collected so many sets of tires until I ran out of money in winter, and I also have to go though them :( To my surprise, the Trofeos were in great shape after one track day. It might take a while!

Yea, you'll be at it for a while with all the tires you have. The G2 have lasted me much longer than expected (10k and 9 track days) although I'm pretty sure they've heat cycled out since I'm a couple seconds off my pace.

Honestly, 2 seconds improvement with Trofeo Rs over the NT01s sounds too much; I wonder if there were any other variables in play (temps, sizes, etc.). I almost ordered a set of NT01s for my Z/28 wheels two times now. I really ran out of space in my garage for tires, though. I hope I can get to try them this season on this car. I'm using 235/40/17 NT01s on my Miata..
