Thank you for posting this.

That's a great video. The P-Zeros are worthless tires in winter conditions.

do you want it totaled or not? it depends on the repairs vs value, but you can sometimes push the insurance company one way or the other if it's close.

wow, that is an awesome video posted there. I would not have thought those winter tires would allow that car to turn like that. impressive

It's good info, and a great sales pitch by one of the nation's largest tire retailers. I'd rather have studs or chains for the slick stuff.

I'm not saying it's not better to have snow tires, but I haven't seen them save the day in real world conditions when you're trying to recover at 25, 30, 40 mph on a patch of unexpected ice on something other than a perfectly flat surface with no other vehicles or fixed objects around. In the OP's case I doubt they would have been the single cause of the accident by not having them.

I know next Winter to invest in some winter tires. But, oddly enough don't remember DC having this much snow or ice in recent years. Just my luck that I got my Camaro this past Nov.

Yep. Baffling how some folks still believe "summer only" does not literally mean "SUMMER ONLY".

There are plenty of independent tests also. Like I said, studded snow tires actually have worse traction on dry pavement than these winter tires. I think consumer reports did a test comparing studded snow tires and winter tires.

When the airbags deploy in the seats how is it repaired? Does it require new seat covers?

Pirelli also makes winter tires that fit the RS wheels on the Camaro.

Aside from snow/ice, I've always thought the key difference between summer & winter tires (and why you shouldn't use either in the incorrect season) is the temperature at which the tire gets "soft" and attains grip. If your winter tire gets "sticky" in contact with 20 degree pavement, I would think it would basically melt touching 120 degree pavement in the dead of summer. Just like how summer tires will never heat up enough to attain grip when the pavement is below freezing.

I don't know about summer tires but Snow tires have (obviously) a far more aggressive tread pattern and are made out of a much, much softer rubber compound, you can literally push the tread in with your finger. We have snow on our roads throughout most of the winter and I wouldn't drive my Camaro without my Goodyear Ultra Grips. As far as chains and or studs, those are illegal just about anywhere but mountainous regions. I would never use them here. One final thing, between winter formulated fuel and snow tires you're gas mileage goes to hell. Haven't checked in the Camaro cuz I don't take it on long trips but our mini-van which gets 28+mpg on highway in warm weather is lucky to get 21 in winter running on it's Blizzaks. I hear ya about buying snow tires in a place like DC, but they're probably good insurance, especially after what you've gone through. Glad to hear you'd dropped off the kids and your OK, good luck with the repairs!
