Well this is certainly sad news for the great folks that built our beloved Camaros.
I can only hope that GM comes up with another model for the Oshawa plant so our friends can get back to work quickly.

Maybe Mike Judge can weigh in as to what is going on at the plant. I know he was talking about possibly retiring at the end of Camaro production so maybe this won't affect him.

Just makes me damn depressed because their are so many dedicated people that this will bring to grief.

Best wishes Canadians.

Oshawa and Chevy got it right when they resurrected the Camaro. Sad for everyone who busted their ass to give us such a great car.

They aren't just throwing people out on the street guys. GM is going to offer retirement packages to a lot of people losing their jobs. They estimate appx. 2,000 employees at Oshawa are eligible for these packages, so if they can get most of not all of these people out with retirement packages, everyone who needs to jobs will still stay to build other cars.

It's August 29th 2002 all over again...the death of the Camaro/Firebird plant in Boisbriand...My oncle was one of the 1200 workers that lost their jobs then. Let's hope they can get a new union contract and a new car to build soon.
Let's pray for those families.

Thanks for your kind words So just to confirm , the 5thgen will roll off the line for the final time on Friday November 20th . As of this date we do not have another product to replace the Camaro , so the flex line will lose one shift ( 1000 ) people . As has been stated there will be a canvass done to see who would like to retire , that will decide the final numbers on total layoffs.

I have the option to retire as I have 32 yrs service , but will wait to see what exactly is being offered before making a decision . Ideally because I've been involved with the 5thgen since before production and worked on VIN # 0001 , I'd like to see the very last Camaro off the line in November .

I don't want to get into a pissing match with some of my American friends here regarding where the Camaro should be built , but I do have to say I'm disappointed with some of the comments I've read here ! I've owned many American built cars and trucks over the years and have never complained about it being from the USA ,in fact I'm proud to own American assembled products because I know the men and women of General Motors always put their heart and soul into each vehicle . My wife's Malibu is American built , we never for a second , thought about not buying it because of its assembly location !

We are a global economy and the Oshawa plants have been building world class products for over 80 yrs , all of us here have given 100 % to each of the 5thgens going down the line and will continue to do so until the very last day .

I wish my brothers / sisters in Lansing all the best with the 6thgen and know full well they will carry the torch high and with pride .

As always I send best regards to all of you and your families from Canada and have a wonderful weekend.

Mike Judge

^^^^ I'm sure I can speak for all my C5 Brothers and Sisters from north of the 49th parrel for all the hard work and the quality of the 5th Gen Camaro produced on the Oshawa line. I am as well dissapointed in some of the negative comments generated from this thread. I have been loyal to GM products since my teens and never gave it a thought whether it was build in the US or Canada as long as it was North American made.

I wish nothing but the best for all the workers that will be affected in Oshawa. The Oshawa fexline has produced world class vehicles and I would like to think there still is a bright future for it and it's workers.
